  • GENERAL INFORMATION

    Lyra-Scarlet: Echo of the Void

The crimson glow of a dying star painted the void as Lyra’s infant eyes fluttered open. Not to the sterile white of a cloning facility, but to the flickering emergency lights of a battered Firespray-class transport. She was adrift, cradled in a deactivated pilot’s seat, clinging to life at the very edge of oblivion – the event horizon of the Maw, a black hole cluster whispered about in hushed, terrified tones across the Outer Rim.

Nineteen standard years have passed since that impossible discovery. A lone, grizzled salvage freighter, the Stardust Drifter, stumbled upon the ghost ship. Its crew, hardened by years of scraping a living from the galaxy’s refuse, were stunned to find a living child within the vessel registered to the infamous pirate, Kath Scarlet.

Lyra’s infancy was shrouded in the Drifter’s dim corridors, her cries echoing against the clatter of salvaged parts. The crew, a motley bunch with their own secrets and scars, became her reluctant guardians. They named her Lyra, for the constellation that sometimes seemed to pierce the deepest darkness.

But Lyra was no ordinary foundling. As she grew, fragmented memories, sharp and vivid, began to surface. The thrill of a daring raid, the sting of blaster fire, the rasping laughter of a woman with a cruel glint in her eye – these weren’t her own experiences, yet they felt undeniably real. They were Kath Scarlet’s.

The Drifter’s medic, a former xenobiologist with a penchant for the obscure, theorized the impossible. Lyra was a clone, a genetic echo of the vanished pirate. And somehow, inexplicably, she had inherited Kath’s entire memory engram, a chaotic torrent of a life lived on the fringes of the law.

Growing up, Lyra was a whirlwind of contradictions. She possessed an innate understanding of starship mechanics, a natural talent for piloting (especially Firesprays, which felt strangely familiar in her hands), and a disconcerting knowledge of the galaxy’s underbelly. Yet, beneath the hardened instincts and cynical wit inherited from her genetic template, a flicker of her own nascent personality struggled to emerge.

The crew of the Stardust Drifter did their best. They taught her to survive, to fight, to be wary of the galaxy’s dangers. They also, in their own rough way, tried to instill a sense of morality, a contrast to the ruthless pragmatism that often surfaced from Kath’s memories.

The mystery of her discovery haunted Lyra. Why was she abandoned at the edge of the Maw? What happened to Kath Scarlet? The pirate queen had vanished without a trace years before Lyra was found, her name fading into legend, presumed another victim of the brutal life she led. The Firespray, the Crimson Shadow, was Kath’s signature vessel. Its presence at the galaxy’s edge, with only an infant inside, was a riddle with no apparent answer.

Now, at nineteen, Lyra has claimed her birthright in a twisted way. The Stardust Drifter, a vessel of salvage, became a vessel of acquisition. Piloting the reactivated Crimson Shadow with an almost preternatural skill, Lyra has begun to carve her own legend in the less-trafficked sectors. Freighters and lightly defended transports have become her prey. The inherited memories of Kath’s successful raids provide a chillingly effective playbook, but Lyra’s own emerging ruthlessness adds a new, unpredictable edge.

In the public eye, and especially when facing down her targets, Lyra is a figure of cold, intimidating authority. She conceals her youthful features and the vulnerability they might suggest behind a flawless, solid aurodium mask. The gleaming metal reflects the cold vacuum of space, obscuring her expressions and lending her an ageless, almost spectral presence. This calculated anonymity serves multiple purposes: it hides her tender age, prevents easy identification that might link her to the ghost of Kath Scarlet, and most importantly, it amplifies the fear she intends to instill in her victims. The glint of aurodium in the darkness has become a harbinger of loss for unwary spacers, a silent testament to the echo of a pirate reborn in the shadow of a black hole. She is Lyra-Scarlet, and the galaxy is slowly beginning to learn her name.

  • APPEARANCE

She has bright red hair and brown like woman who gave her dna. She is athletic and of medium height. She typically wears black combat suits studded with pockets with the various useful tools of her trade.

She often wears a full face aurodium mask to hide her face and instill fear on those who she does not wish to perceive her as a pretty and fresh faced 19 year old.

  • PERSONALITY

Beneath the cold gleam of her aurodium mask and the roar of the Crimson Shadow's engines, Lyra Scarlet cultivated a legend as sharp and unforgiving as the asteroid fields she haunted. She was the terror that descended from the jagged rocks, a phantom pirate who crippled her targets with brutal efficiency, seemingly indifferent to the swirling debris and the ever-present threat of vacuum. Her reputationhelllled her as a merciless marauder who tallied her gains in lives extinguished, a butcher who revelled in carnage. This grim persona was a carefully constructed edifice, a tool honed and exaggerated to ensure swift compliance and minimal resistance.

The truth, however, was a discordant whisper beneath the amplified threats. While the inherited thrill of a well-executed raid coursed through her veins, and the strategic dance of battle held a certain allure, Lyra’s preference leaned towards the quiet victory of surrender. The unnecessary spilling of blood held little appeal beyond its capacity to enforce her fearsome image. Her ruthlessness was often a calculated performance, a means to an end rather than an inherent desire.

Yet, when the mask was stowed, revealing the youthful features it so effectively concealed, a different facet of Lyra emerged. In the rare havens she frequented within polite society, a surprising warmth softened her gaze. She held a deep empathy for the galaxy's forgotten, the orphaned and abandoned children who mirrored her own mysterious beginnings. Time and credits, plundered from unsuspecting freighters, found their way to various charitable organizations dedicated to their care. But beneath this burgeoning compassion lay a volatile core, a fiery inheritance from the genetic source she never knew. Cross her, push her beyond her carefully maintained composure, and the echoes of Kath Scarlet’s infamous temper would erupt, a stark reminder that even the kindest heart could harbor a formidable fury.

    STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES

GENETIC INHERITANCE: She is nineteen but has two lifetimes of piracy in her mind including the life of her progenitor, one of the greatest pirate raiders of her time. She is a phenomenal pilot and has the skills in combat to hold her own even against Jedi. Which is handy.

REPUTATION: The sight of her red and white firespray descending from an asteroid fields is often enough to end a fight before it begins, the fear of death loosening even the most stubborn captain’s grip on his cargo. She has been careful to keep her professional and personal persona separate though so she doesn't get arrested the moment she opens her mouth in a public place.

WANTED: Her reputation means she has to take care. If she arrives in a port on the Crimson Shadow it will raise attention so can't just go anywhere She pleases. And if she is associated with the ship she cannot remove her mask or potentially ruin her careful plans.

TEMPER: She has Kath’s temper and has several times been provoked into rash decisions and violent acts. Is this a weakness or a warning to be polite to her?
