Luck Be A Lady?

[member="Rekha Kaarde"]

Mark grunted as he hauled his duffel bag of his (rather modest) collection of belongings. His back shrieked in complaint at the heavy lifting it was being asked to complete after one hell of a journey to reach this point.

Living from job to job, with a pile of credits that was FAR short of the amount needed to achieve his goal, of buying his own freighter, he decided that he needed to put himself in a major trading hub. He'd decided on Coruscant, which meant hitching rides by whatever means possible, whether it be work, favours (not of a sexual nature, he was a little on the poor side, not desperate), cooking meals, you name it. Often it'd buy him an uncomfortable bunk, or corner of a cargo hold, or somewhere that left him with muscle aches and severe sleep deprivation.

When he was tired, he felt the cold more than normal, stopping to button up his leather jacket as he set off in sight of somewhere he could get a drink and put his head down in a proper bed for the night. Normally, he'd be on the hunt for work from minute one, but tonight...tonight he just needed a break.

"The Lucky Lady..." the sign seemed about as inviting as a sign could possibly be. In he went, making a bee-line for the bar, staring through tired eyes in the general direction of the bartender nearby.

"Hey...what's the third best whiskey you've got?" He asked. Gotta love a shoestring budget...

Rekha turned looking at the man standing at the bar a quick sweep of his appearance and everything said newbie. She smiled though didn't want to scare the newbie off.

"Third best huh...well that depends on your tastes there Whyren''s of course, and cheedoan, and I got a bottle of tevraki." Wanting to give him a bit of a break considering all things, "So, you tell me something is this your first visit to Coruscant?" She knew she had not seen him in the bar so either he didn't venture this way, didn't drink a lot, or just wandered in.

Either way she was glad for the business and would do right by him. First though she'd be herself and see if he could handle her sarcasm and plethora of questions.

“Can’t go wrong with a good Wryren’s!” He replied. It was a staple you tended to find in most places throughout the Galaxy, from his experience anyway. It would never blow your mind, but you knew what you were getting.

“First time in a long time” Mark responded to the second question. He’d been through the place before on several occasions, normally a short stay until he moved on to pastures new, or hopped on the next ship, that kind of thing. His recent travels had taken him to some pretty backwater places, it was time to try his hand in the heart of things. “I hear it’s changed a lot since then?”

"No you can't it's smooth like a baby's butt" Rekha poured the glass and set it before the customer. "Yeah it's changed some we finally got it back to being Coruscant, the seat of freedom as opposed to the Seat of all darkness"

Yeah the Alliance had drive the Sith from Coruscant which meant she had been able to come home. But uh she still had to go to Bespin check the staff, and the supplies. She was wishing and hoping that one day Bespin would be free too. She missed the thranta rides.

"I'm Rekha who are you?" She liked knowing names she tried to remember them all but sometimes well she just failed miserably at it.

“Thanks!” Mark cradled the glass in his hand, more to have something to do with them more than anything else.

“That sounds a little more like the place I heard of...” he remarked. It was positive that Coruscant was moving in the right direction. Maybe it would be worth him sticking around after all.

Mark downed his whiskey. “I’m Mark, but you can call me anytime” he said with a hint of a smirk. Wow, that was nowhere near as smooth as the whiskey...

"Anytime huh, Hmm well I've never called someone Anytime. I've called they Hey you, Bub, Flyboy, whathername but not Anytime." A single brow arched up as she looked at him her curiosity was peaked was he one of the few sarcastic beings left in the galaxy like herself.

She smiled and poured herself a glass as well, "owner's privilege, Anytime." She lifted the glass, "here's to living large and going big." She smiled gently clinked hers to his and then downed the drink.

She loved Whyrens and it should be taken slow and easy. Just not tonight. Green eyes looked towards the door sometimes someone came in that made her feel just a bit uneasy.

“The owner huh?” Good one Mark, using that cheesy line on the very person you were going to ask for employment. Genius.

“Living large and going big, sounds like a plan to me. Got any ideas on how to do that with a minimal stack of credits?” He shook his head at the predicament. He had a decent amount saved, but that was reserved for a ship of his own, so he had to feed and water it like a delicate plant.

“Expecting someone?” He caught the occasional glances towards the door. He wasn’t in the least bit surprised that the bar might have the odd unsavoury character given the planet it was on

"I'm always expecting someone and as for getting ahead. Hard work. Long hours, and make friends." She had made friends along the way, lots of them. It was what helped her to build the business and to stay alive another day.

Dekken, HK, Coren, Spark just to name a few of the ones who saved her when she was at her lowest point.

"What is it that you want to do with your limited amount of credits besides drink?"

(OOC - [member="Rekha Kaarde"] - Hey I saw you were looking for threads, don't know if you wanted to pick this one back up? Have had an 8-month nightmare with a house move but I'm finally back in the saddle)

"Buy a ship, hopefully use that to amass more credits, upgrade to the second best whiskey..." the last one seemed so far away at this point but he threw it in anyway. "Maybe open my own restaurant one day, if I can make it happen."

The restaurant plan was a difficult one, Mark didn't know how easy he'd find it to run the front of house when his instinct was to be in the back and getting hands-on with the preparation. It was the natural "career path" so he felt compelled to tell everyone that was the goal. He'd have to make peace with it when that happens.

"Buy a ship, start a business, and drink. Yeah I can relate to all of it."

She looked about yep she could relate to just about every single word of it. As for the door Mon Loup and his cronies hadn't been back in a bit but there was no telling when they would be back. "One thing about success someone else is always wanting to have it or take it."

She looked over again, "I got a few business going I got this place here, one on Bespin, and a party boat on the Lake on by Canto Bight. You have a preference for where you want to work? Or what you do while working?"

Give him a choice and get him to work.

welcome back!

Mark contemplated responding with 'whichever place you spend the most time at' but considering how well his anytime line went down earlier, he decided to leave that well alone. Besides, it seemed he was talking to his potential new employer, which would only make things complicated.

"I mean...a party boat sounds exactly like me..." Mark kicked the thought around for a second. "...but given how long it took me to travel here in the first place, and how much my back hurts from sleeping on the deck of a cargo hold, I'd maybe like to stay put for a while."

He took a few seconds to glance around the bar.

"As for what, I can cook, I can mix cocktails, I can break up a bar fight, feel free to put me where you need me"

"Really" She said it flatly, "Listen cupcake one thing you will learn if I offer you a job and it's not here I'll take you to where it is. I don't ask someone about a choice if I"m not willing to do a little taxing. Besides then I get to show you around some."

Yeah she understood traveling, "my ship has bunks...you know beds with blankets and pillow if you want to sleep on the deck you can but....the bed is better." Rekha had a feleing this guy had seen better days and had better luck.

"Cooking is good, cocktails also good, I need someone who can be a party master. Mix drinks, socialize, drum up business...ya know earn their keep and get paid a fair wage." Course she'd negotiate him getting part of the party fees later. That is if he wanted...course now...it was up to him.

"I need..." What did she need, "Well the Lady needs a second shift barkeep, the Underground needs a cook, and the Gem needs a party master...so...which do you think?"
