SPECIAL FEATURES

  • Picatinny Rail: The Coldstream does have Picatinny rails above and below its barrels, which allows it to use a variety of over the counter weapon's attachments such as aftermarket sights, scopes, lasers, secondary weapons, etc.
  • Variable Fire Modes: The Coldstream has a conventional Cryoban Rifle mode, but it also has an "Overload" mode where it dispenses significantly more CryoBan than usual.
  • Existing Blaster Rifle Chassis: The Coldstream uses an existing blaster rifle chassis as its base, making it easy for soldiers and battle droids that typically use blaster rifles to use these weapons.

STRENGTHS
  • Exotic Freeze: Few things are well-prepared to deal with the intense cold that CryoBan brings. Organic matter exposed to CryoBan produces numbing chill that frequently goes through conventional armor and clothing, leading to severe vasoconstriction and ischemia (which can lead to amputated limbs) and nerve damage. Most armors and electronic devices similarly aren't designed to function in intense cold, as this freezing can lead to their host material quickly shrinking or cracking.
  • Colder than Hoth (Extreme Stopping Power - Overload setting): The Coldstream can discharge three times more CryoBan than normal in its overload mode. While this much more rapidly depletes the CryoBan reservoir than its normal firing mode, the sheer amount of CryoBan usually overwhelms an opponent's defenses and can entirely encase human-sized targets in an icy frost.
WEAKNESSES
  • Short-Range: Coldstreams have a fairly short effective range due to Cryoban's tendency to activate/react once exposed to an unpressurized atmosphere.
  • Limited Ammunition (Overload mode): While Overload mode can be extremely powerful , its power relies heavily on how much Cryoban is discharged, leading to its CryoBan reservoir being much more rapidly depleted.
DESCRIPTION
Always looking to break into new markets in order to diversify their assets, Lucerne Personal Defense has always been engaged in low-key experiments with exotic weaponry. The emergence and surprising resilience of the Bryn'adul hastened its efforts in that department, leading to the company's first CryoBan rifle, the Coldstream. In order to hasten development, the Coldstream utilizes an existing blaster rifle chassis and many of its components, leading to a familiar ergonomics for many users at the cost of a somewhat reduced CryoBan reservoir. Despite its rushed nature of design, the Coldstream does incorporate one of Lucerne Personal Defense's characteristic alternate firing modes, giving some versatility to the unusual weapon.

In normal mode, the Coldstream fires short blasts of CryoBan that freeze the area of impact and rapidly drain heat from the target. Compared to conventional weapons, this blast is more short-ranged than many blaster rifles, but also proportionally more powerful. The overload mode changes this, by rapidly discharging a single, more CryoBan blast of much greater volume than normal at a higher pressure. Against human-sized targets, this blast rapidly engulfs them before encasing them. The sheer amount of CryoBan means that most targets suffer grievous injuries that typically immediate medical treatment before permanent damage and amputations occur. While there was some discomfort within the company about the production of a weapon that could cause such severe damage in what could be considered a cruel way, it was determined that the Bryn'adul's own practices made such technology a necessity.

Coldstreams have been put rapidly into production not only using Lucerne Personal Defense's assets, but the factory ships of its parent company, Lucerne Labs. This massive production effort has allowed the Coldstream to be rapidly distributed to groups fighting the Bryn'adul at a minimal cost with a widespread logistics network to ensure constant and steady deliveries. Batches of Coldstreams have been dispatched to Directorate units and several smaller factions, but the bulk of the initial Coldstream orders so far have been given to the Silver Jedi, the Jedi Order, the Alliance, and their allies currently facing the Bryn'adul. The unspoken word around the company is that Coldstream production will be significantly slackened or even discontinued once the Bryn'adul threat is over, but until then, the Coldstream seems likely remain in high production.
