Strengths:
  • Hidden in plain sight: The Foundry stations are built into large asteroids and derelict space debris, hiding them from line of sight unless looking directly at them.
  • Well defended: The stations have redundant particle shielding, one layer to defend against the small asteroids and other space debris around them, and a second to stop ballistics. On top of this, ray shielding protects the heart of the station where the reactor is kept. These shields coupled with their asteroid homes make for a very defensible position for the Lords of Chaos
  • Easily accessible repair: Designed to be a shipyard first and foremost, the floating dry docks in and around the station make for easy repair between patrols and skirmishes.
Weaknesses:
  • Immobile: These stations for the most part are stuck within the asteroid or debris they are built into. While not technically immobile, the stations are stuck on a predictable orbit around other celestial bodies like planets and stars.
  • Quickly Constructed: Because these structures were so hastily put together, any tinkering with the delicate settings can send production values into overdrive, threatening to cause a station wide meltdown of the reactors. Infiltration is a huge concern.
Description: The foundry stations used by the Lords of Chaos are hastily constructed shadow ports that double as manufacturing facilities for their starships and weapons. Built into the many asteroids and derelict space stations of the Redoubt Cluster, they serve as strongholds and symbols of power to the local populations and strike fear into their hearts. While they are difficult to find, they are known to be large complexes of durasteel and fire and are the heart of the chaos that engulfs the Redoubt Cluster.

As far as design goes they are very simple utilizing simple tricks and natural camouflage to fool sensors. Thrust trace dampeners on a large scale are used as the stations' primary means of diminishing heat on sensors while ion scramblers serve to hide communication within the station. The biggest boon to these shadow ports though is that they are constructed into large asteroids and old Killik space stations. These massive celestial bodies serve to deter large ships that are unfamiliar with the territory as they are often surrounded by space debris and asteroid fields. While this makes travel to and from these stations perilous for the Lords of Chaos as well, it is seen by the Dread King and Dread Lords as a worthy trade-off.
