PRODUCTION INFORMATION
Manufacturer: Lilaste Ordnance Directorate (primary fabrication); Rocksolid Arms (commercial licensing)
Affiliation: Lilaste Order/ Diarchy
Market Status: Closed market
Model: LO-TRD-S
Modularity: High penetrator geometry, sabot profile, and tip package are modular for mission tailoring.
Production: Mass Produced
Material: Dral Kayatr penetrator cores, with Tensile-Durasteel mesh sabots and Fyrirdögun micro-treatment on tip surfaces.
SPECIAL FEATURES
- Triple-Core Penetrator: Single sabot delivers three slender, high-density Dral Kayatr penetrators that remain coherent at hypersonic velocities and produce three coordinated penetration channels on impact.
- Discarding Sabot: Lightweight Tensile-Durasteel-mesh sabot discards predictably for stable flight and consistent impact geometry.
- Variant Tip Packages: Plain kinetic (armor-piercing), shaped micro-charge (TRD-E), and telemetry/tracer pods for targeting calibration.
- Fin Stabilization / Slip-Sabot Options: Fin-stabilized cores for smoothbore barrels; slip-sabot spin options for rifled platforms.
- Targeting Geometry: Nose and sabot design channels energy to separate and hit nearby points to maximize chance of severing internal conduits
- Scalable Munition Design:can be engineered at multiple sizes without loss of performance. From compact infantry cartridges to autocannon shells, heavy ordnance, and even starship-grade munitions,
STRENGTHS
- Beskar Penetration: Specifically engineered to pierce Beskar and similarly resistant alloys.
- Dral Kayatr Penetration: Dral Kayatr cores are formulated to bite through hardened facing and preserve tip geometry on impact.
- Triple-Channel Effect: Three coordinated penetrators increase the chance of severing multiple conduits or structural nodes with one hit.
- Surgical System Denial: Designed to hit clustered subsystem arrays—power, life support, comms—rather than only bulk armor.
- Reduced Spall Profile: Narrow rod channels produce less catastrophic spall than single-cavity impacts, lowering risk to following boarding teams.
- High Sectional Density: Slender, dense cores concentrate kinetic energy into small contact areas for superior localized defeat.
- Scalable Across Platforms: Same functional signature from small-arm sabots to 500 mm macro packages—a single doctrine for many platforms.
- Sabot-Tunability: Sabot and stabilization options allow consistent flight across atmosphere and vacuum without changing core design.
- Resists Ablation: Laminanium component reduces erosive heating at hypersonic impact, preserving penetrator performance.
- Predictable Breach Geometry: Controlled divergence angle creates repeatable, exploitable holes for boarding and internal access.
- Modular Tip Suite: Swap-in tip options (kinetic, micro-shaped charge, HE, EMP, ION ETC) let crews tailor effect without new round families
- Concussive Shock: Even when full penetration fails, the concentrated kinetic impulse and rapid local overpressure deliver brutal concussive effects—stunning or disorienting armored infantry, crippling delicate electronics, and jarring internal fittings inside vehicles or compartments.
- Extreme Velocity: Iadrium propellant delivers higher muzzle speeds than conventional powders, improving penetration and flat trajectory.
WEAKNESSES
- Limited anti-shield utility: against active, intact phased shields the round is little better than other kinetics unless synchronized with shield transients.
- Barrel wear & maintenance: high-velocity sabots increase barrel/launcher wear; specialized barrels or liners are recommended.
- Energetic sympathetic failure: if all three penetrators hit widely separated points, they may fail to produce structural collapse — getting three glancing hits is worse than one deep hit in some armor designs.
- Signature On Launch: Macro and vehicle launches create detectable thermal/kinetic signatures that can reveal firing positions.
- Collateral Over penetration: High sectional density increases the chance of passing through targets and endangering behind-line personnel or systems.
DESCRIPTION
The LO-TRD-S (Trident Sabot) family was developed by the Lilaste Ordnance Directorate to provide a surgical, kinetic option for breaching, targeted system denial, and anti-armor work in combined-arms assaults. Rather than relying on a single, blunt mass to defeat armor, LO-TRD-S punts three slender Dral Kayatr cores downrange inside a discarding sabot. On impact the sabot discards and nose geometry funnels kinetic energy into the three cores which remain coherent and drive slightly divergent but overlapping channels through armor or bulkheads.
Dral Kayatr (a Beskar–Songsteel–Laminanium alloy) was chosen as the penetrator material to balance toughness, edge retention, and limited self-repair. The alloy's high resistance to energy and kinetic erosion preserves penetrator integrity against modern composite plating and specialized close-range counters. The addition of Laminanium grants the cores a micro-annealing property useful for post-engagement inspection and limited reconditioning but the self-repair is deliberately slow and not a substitute for proper ordnance maintenance.
