TECHNICAL INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES

 • Magnetic tips on its feet

 • Small Size

 • Hacking Software

 • Multitude of tools
Strengths:

 • It’s above you!: The Spider Droid’s feet are capped with magnetic plates that allow it to stick to walls and ceilings. Approaching it’s target from angles which weren’t thought possible.

 • TIny: The Spider is not a large droid, designed to be as small as possible the engineers at Locke and Key Engineers designed it for one purpose, and one purpose alone. To sneak into installations and ships to slice into their systems, retrieving data and placing viruses.

 • Hacking Software: The Spider contains the same slicing software present in an Astromech droid, without any of the extra software.

 • Tools!: The legs of the Spider are not just for show or movement, they also contain the slicer’s tools of the trade, allowing it to climb into areas it’s not supposed to be, and access the ports, data and wires it needs to get the job done.
Weaknesses:

 • Mechanical: The Spider is a capable slicing droid but can’t hope to match the intuition of a human or the pure power of a larger mathematics droid.

 • Unarmed: The Spider Droid has no real weapons to speak of, relying on its size to protect it, and relying on its ability to think around a situation and slice a system to get what it needs done.

 • Basic intelligence: The Spider isn’t as capable as many of Locke and Keys products, it is very much a droid with one job and one job alone, to get in where it isn’t meant to be and slice into systems. It has a tendency to flee combat and altercations rather than fight, preferring to hide than get around it.

 • Limited ability: The Spider is not as powerful as a larger mathematics droid, and if faced with secured systems or a capable opposition it would find it hard to complete its mission.

 • Weak: Both in terms ofitss armour and its strength, the Spider has no armour save for it’s thin metal chassis, and it has very little strength. Unable to force open doors or impediments by brute force it instead has to find a way around them.
DESCRIPTION

As they ramped up their development of Electronic Warfare capabilities the engineers at Locke and Key mechanics became aware that there was a fundamental flaw in most electronic systems. They were extremely vulnerable to a physical slicing attempt. It was to this end that Locke and Key started work on a droid to take advantage of this weakness. In keeping with the developing theme of their droids they looked to nature for any thoughts, any ideas which could influence the development of their droid. The Company looked through the various denizens of nature before settling on the spider. The animals are capable of getting anywhere, and their design was stable, worked out by thousands of years of evolution. The Locke and Key engineers decided to reproduce the elements, of the spider, the low center of gravity and its ability to stick to walls.

This wasn’t enough for the engineers who wanted to improve upon nature, and they did this by providing the droid with a variety of tools. While a normal spider couldn’t get into a locked room, or disable a security system, the Locke and Key Spider could. Due to the size of the droid, the engineers were forced to give up much of the personality that tends to characterise their droids. They trading the personality of the EX-1000, the loyalty of the War-X for a single minded focus on the mission. The Spider Droid only cared about one thing, completing the mission, if it felt that it was in any danger of being captured or discovered the droid was equipped with a self destruct that would destroy both the droid and any data it was carrying.
