SPECIAL FEATURES:
The blade can be detached from the hilt on a whipcord allowing the user to use the sword like a grappling hook, or as a medium range weapon. The maximum length the whipcord can reach is fifty meters, extended length of the whipcord is controlled by a control on the hilt.
STRENGTHS:
+The cutting edge of the blade is plasma, just like a lightsabers. It can be used to deflect an attack from a saber and cut through most materials.
+Blade can detach from the hilt on a whipcord, good for taking enemies off guard or slashing a plasma blade through a group of enemies at range.
+The metal body of the blade is a phrik titanium blend. This makes it quite durable and able to stand up against attacks from a lightsaber.
+Some measure of modularity is present since the blade and hilt work independently. If Averin created a new hilt he could swap out the old one.
+Even a sliver of pontite creates a potent blade.
WEAKNESSES:
-While similar to a lightsaber it is not a lightsaber. It cannot be used with any existing forms of lightsaber combat. Additionally, while the main body is resistant to lightsabers it would be damaged if it was repeatedly beaten on by a lightsaber.
-While the whipcord can certainly come in handy, it is not made of any special material. Someone could fairly easily sever it while he is swinging it about, leaving the weapon pretty much useless until it is fixed.
-The hilt is loaded with a whipcord which means it is hollow. While it is slightly elongated to accommodate a weight to maintain the balance of the weapon, it still lacks durability. Sufficient kinetic impact could shatter the hilt in Averin's hand.
-Since the blade is not solid plasma it will not cut as quickly as a lightsaber through denser/tougher/thicker material. This weakness is offset somewhat by the strength of the Pontite sliver.
DESCRIPTION:
A family heirloom passed down to Averin by his father. The Light Cutlass is as the name suggests a lightsaber variant. Unlike most though it has a physical blade, with only the cutting edge actually being made of plasma. Exactly why this is, is unknown to Averin though he has looked inside and seen that rather than a full Kyber crystal, there is only a thin sliver of one. This is housed in a specialized emitter resting at the base of the blade, flush with the hilt. The emitter shapes the plasma to curve along the edge of the blade, rather than extending in a straight line. The hilt is weighted to counterbalance the bulk the emitter has near the guard.
