Prologue: The Iron Protocols

After the Forum and several adjacent meetings, but before Imperius left the world to continue his expeditionary cause into the Unknown Regions, he met with another individual. It was a meeting that was long overdue and more than necessary to be had. The Dark Empire remnant was aimless, headless and spineless, divided and lacking any cohesion and central agency or rule. While they had agreed on some terms, the fall of the Empire and the scattering of its powers led to chaos and Imperius offer and call to withdraw into the obscurity of the Unknown Regions was left unanswered by . . . . it was difficult to judge by what exactly.

He considered the goal to remain near Dark Empire space an idiotic approach, short-sighted and lacking any strategic benefits other than petty convenience. So it was time to arrange and organise what the Reborn were supposed to be and supposed to become. To have an impact in the Imperial Confederation with its moderates under Strauss and its half-blind hardliners under Lorcas would require them to be united in purpose.

Imperius had just enacted the Iron Protocols, starting to form Zakuul and Iokath into more than mere outposts of technology and imperialism, but forging them into a cohesive force that was at his disposal. It was a statement for both those in the remnants and outside that the Imperial Supremacy was a flame that could not be extinguished by petty infighting nor by external threats. Neither Alliance nor Sith would have any capacity to destroy the idea they had brought into existence millennia ago. Let there be war. Let it be millions who died trying to oppose true order and the legitimate rule.

Imperius was in his solar, his working office in the Palace, mid-way between the assembly areas on the lower levels and the Eternal Throne on top. It was a busy place, now more than ever. With Imperial staff officers manning stations and speaking into comms units, members of the now officially established Indomitus Legion stood guard in their black armors, red surcoats ornating their imperial-styled plates. The Warmaster himself stood in his ornate plate, one hand on the pommel of his sword as he went through the stream of information that flooded in and out.

"Lord Executor. We have not had the chance yet for a proper meeting since the last time you visited Zakuul and I expect to remedy this fact here and now."

Sularen stood in Imperius's office as he was received by the Imperial Warmaster. Until now both Sularen and Imperius had never had the chance to have a true one-to-one talk since Imperius's introduction to the Dark Empire during the Summit at Nirauan. Both men were busy with their own projects, Imperius with his Sith Ascendant and now this Iron Protocol of his, and Sularen with the Dark Empire and now his current "Heir to the Empire" project. But if anything was clear it was that both Sularen and Imperius shared a similar vision for the future of Imperialism and as such a direct meeting between them was only inevitable.

"Likewise. This meeting between us has been long over due since Nirauan, and i look forward to engage in some constructive discourse concerning the future of the Empire." Sularen replied. "It seems you've been busy here on Zakuul with your Iron Protocols." the Lord-Executor remarked. "It's always nice to see more proof that the flames of Imperialism have not been fully extinguished despite the collapse of the Dark Empire and the Empire of the Lost. Although then again, the main issue of how we can add fuel to the fire in order to bring forth our rebirth, revenge and reclamation always persists."

"Those flames will only be extinguished once the stupidity of both Sith and Jedi have been eradicated. But neither the Dark Empire nor the Empire of the Lost was destined to play a part in that. One led by false beliefs and a Sith, the other by erratic behaviour and disorganisation. None of these are traits that are demanded of leadership in an Imperial Hegemony."

"During the Imperial Forum parts of why we crumbled were laid bare. Petty arguments scaling to major disagreements. I honestly missed your voice in it, especially with the plans that have been set in motion."

His eyes fixated on the Warlord of the Empire.

"You are setting up camp on and around Dathomir. I would argue about the wisdom of that choice, it is not unlike Onrai's plan to remain embedded on Ord Mantell - it is foolishly close to the Alliance. It begs the question why. Even if we join the Confederation, the distance is more than substantial and you have assets in the Unknown Regions which lie now more than half a Galaxy and a superpower away."

As in the meeting, he was more than intent on speaking his mind. Too much is lost by those who act and perform to be liked and accepted, or those that consider their plans too secret and special to share all of it. Imperius knew when to apply secrecy and it was not here.

It didn't surprise Sularen that Imperius would question the particular placement of his new base of operations in close proximity to Alliance Space, highlighting the logistical challenges that might come as a result, especially due to the large distance between Dathomir and New Alderaan. Furthermore, there was also the issue of the constant rapid expansion of the Galactic Alliance across the galaxy, as more and more worlds chose to join them which could really become a major problem if the Alliance chose to advance towards the Mandalorian Cluster.

"I plan on reconsolidating the Empire Reborn within the Trans-Hydian Borderline Region." Sularen explained. "Dathomir is merely the starting point from which i intend to exert our influence in the area, and there are already a vast amount of valuable worlds such as Serenno, Ord Radama, Kol Huro, Feriae Junction and Celenon that could further fuel our efforts to bring forth a successful Imperial resurgence." he added.

"Given the close proximity of New Alderaan to the Trans-Hydian Borderlines, it will not be difficult for the Confederation to rapidly move in the region and bring it under control. Furthermore, establishing ourselves on the borderlines might even allow us to resume the war against the Galactic Alliance and the Diarchy far sooner, finishing what the Dark Empire started at Carlac once and for all"

"Your trust in our new partners is flattering. But I do not need to remind you of it being a pragmatic relationship, not one based on trust. It is not pragmatic to attempt to challenge two powers that at this time vastly outnumber us in any category. Further I have not yet seen the Confederation at war - the Risen are outlanders and the former Lost had their last successful campaign against a group of upstart smugglers and bandits. The path to Dathomir leads either through Sith space via the Shaltin Tunnels or through the Salin Corridor which is not that close to New Alderaan."

"Waging war is a necessity, but not half blind and with one arm bound on our back. You have always set your course yourself and I have no expectations to be able to undo your advances. Still I ask you to reconsider it. If we cannot stand united and cohesive as the Reborn, we will have no leverage or standing in the Confederation and will not be able to marshal our forces effectively."

His eyes looked at the man. They were empty, there was no spark of soul or warmth in them, yet the words spoken were not purely done from cold calculation. There was a passion and an urgency underlying the tone of his arguments, for Imperius was not ready to see a shattering of Empires, just to see a shattering of remnants for the sake of proximity to the enemy that was partly responsible.

"You do not have the forces to challenge the Alliance or Diarchy. Neither do I. Neither do the Risen or the Sector Authority. We have to unite and not follow individual set-pieces and headstrong moves."

"You misunderstood me, Imperius. I have little intention to directly challenge the Alliance and the Diarchy in the near-future. I am well aware of the various limitations that inhibit our ability to wage a conventional war against our former rivals. I only intend to wage war with our rivals once we have properly consolidated our power and re-established ourselves on the galactic scale." Sularen responded. "My operations on Dathomir are temporary, designed to serve as the base of operations from which i can oversee the Empire Reborn's strategic relocation into designated areas within the Trans-Hydian Borderlands." the Lord-Executor further explained.

"My ultimate goal for these areas is to build a solid powerbase for the Empire Reborn that can further strengthen the Imperial Confederation once it gathers enough strength and influence to assert itself as a galactic power. I'm talking about vast war industries, military academies, fortress worlds and deep space shipyards. All located in a portion of space close enough to New Alderaan for the Imperial Confederation to rapidly secure it, while also being close enough to both the Galactic Alliance and the Diarchy to be in proximity of both factions once the Confederation has secured that portion of space."

He listened to the elaboration of the Neo-Imperial Warlord intently. He would have given a deep sigh - and mentally he did indeed sigh - but would not offer this derogatory gesture overshadow this exchange. Imperius had not offered Zakuul to the Imperials as soil for grudges and insults, but a future that could take roots and spring to life.

It was not a strategically sound approach in the mind of the Pureblood. The Hydian Way was everything but secure or stable, the Alliance and Sith Order controlled it, respectively. It was an ego-driven, short-sighted decision based on some revanchism that probably dated further back than Byss. It was worth making a mental note, but not burning bridges.

"We must focus our strength, coordinate and use superior logistics and zeal to overcome our lack of resources and manpower. Spreading thin is dangerous and foolish. Our blood is Iron. Our will is strength. With the technology that Karl Von Strauss Karl Von Strauss offers, we can connect our spheres through minimal effort while we are finding the center of our power. Its limited capacity will prove a challenge, but it is a dire necessity if our visions misalign so dramatically for the time being."

"The Reborn is a mere step, a corpse weighing down the barbed wire for us to step over. I expect the same from the Risen and Sector Authority. We are not confederates, we are Imperials. It is an Empire we must build, or we will fail, bogged down by our petty ambitions and narrow-minded visions that drive us further and further apart."

His eyes focused, a targeting laser the locked onto the dark skinned man. "What do you need to take steps towards this unification with your current powerbase and plans?"
