These laser quills are ancient artifacts crafted during a time when the warrior monks of the Kyber Temple were on the run and persecuted for their beliefs. They were buried in the sands outside Jedha City for centuries until a FarStar Initiative archaeological expedition unearthed the precious artifacts and mistaking them for simple cultural curios shipped them back to Alliance space for further study. Once they arrived in the Polis Massa system educated eyes recognized them as more than simplistic writing implements and they were flagged for special analysis.
While en route to Quarantine World III an Alliance shuttle carrying the entire collection of laser quills suffered mechanical issues and crashed on an uninhabitable frontier moon. Since this is the Outer Rim we won't ask how you got your hands on one, you dirty rotten thief.
