Kye Melec
Shot in the Dark

"The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision."
Name: Kye Melec (Callsign: Blink)
Age: 23
Species: Miraluka
Sex: Female
Orientation: Bisexual
Force sensitive: Yes
Appearance: Of average height and weight at 5’5” and 120 lbs, Kye doesn’t attract much attention in a crowd. With light blonde hair that falls past her shoulders and a fair complexion, she’s the embodiment of your average galactic citizen, right until one gets down to her obvious lack of physical eyes. Her empty eye sockets are typically covered by this or that wrapping, and she’s typically clad in this or that military-esque ensemble, though rarely ever does she don her dress uniform, unless the occasion calls for it.
Faction: The Republic
Rank: Sniper/Soldier
Strengths:
+ Physically fit thanks to her military background.
+ Highly developed skill when it comes to most types of weaponry.
+ Efficient and quick, once given a task she’ll get it done fast, and correctly as well.
Middle ground:
+/- Force Sight – While this enables her a range and depth of perception not many are naturally capable of, it also allows her to be rendered sightless by simply negating her connection to the Force.
+/- Keenly sensitive hearing – On one hand, this allows her to be able to detect what’s transpiring about her through sound alone. On the other, it makes her easily susceptible to sound-based attacks, and heightens her chance of going deaf eventually. Earplugs on the battlefield are a necessity.
Weaknesses:
- Low midichlorian count – While this may seem strange to some, given her species, Kye’s midichlorian count is only high enough to allow her to see and sense others via the Force, but no more.
- Has a tendency to look over the small details due to her focus with getting things done right when needed.
Other:
* Family: Cousin – Juwiela Melec
Bio:
Similar to her cousin, Kye wasn’t raised on Alpheridies. However, unlike the other, her childhood did include a permanent home of sorts. The planet she and her family resided on was Onderon, none other than the capital of the Galactic Republic itself. For all intents and purposes her childhood was rather average, with her cousin and their family stopping by for visits when both were still young. Unity was important among the family (and this included cousins and similar relatives), as is commonplace among the culture of the Miraluka as a whole, and as such a closely-knit bond was formed. They were a fully efficient family unit, with their own sorts of trials and tribulations, though nothing set them apart from the greater galaxy.
Kye and Juwiela grew up seeing each other regularly, and though they each had their own lives, a bond of sorts was formed. Of course, this changed in time, the visits breaking off altogether after a few years. Of course, being busy with schooling didn’t give her much time to consider just what her cousin was up to, and she assumed life was transpiring as usual for what family she had about the galaxy, when in fact the opposite was true. Life had begun in full force, and no longer did she find much time to concern herself with what mundane thoughts had occupied her childhood. After all, she had her whole life ahead of her, and some amount of planning had to be done. Anything else could wait.
That was, until her cousin contacted her again, if only to update her on her life and all of its happenings. The other had joined the Rebel Alliance, going on about its cause and all that they fought for. It sounded nothing short of amazing to her ears, and through that she gained her own sort of interest in the military. It sounded far more interesting than simply working an office job for the rest of her life, and if she could do good along the way, then there was no reason not to take the opportunity to better her own life and that of others. Living on the capital world of the Republic made such an affair simple, and soon enough she found herself enlisted and off to basic training.
Of course, things were bound to be drastically different from what her cousin had described, especially given that she would be sequestered to ground combat while the other was busy flying circles around the Sith. But she survived, as she always did, even if there was some question about her ability to see in the beginning. After all, it wasn’t every day someone wearing a blindfold was handed a gun and told to shoot. But it turned out that, despite what most would consider a disability, she wasn’t a bad shot at all. In fact, she was one of the better ones, out of all those that shared the firing range with her, perhaps due in part to her own unique way of seeing.
Eventually she found herself recommended for a program targeted specifically at those meant to be battlefield snipers, and everything only snowballed from there. It was something she picked up on rather quickly after the first few months, and the irony of her being there wasn’t lost on those other soldiers, even when it came to the literal battlefield. It was an irony she could appreciate as well, so long as she was able to get the job done. With a rifle on her back and a blindfold wrapped about empty eye sockets, she was a rather difficult sight to miss. But at least she rarely ever missed a shot.
