The species has a small variety of colorization of their crystalline bodies; which has also established the species into a caste system to be later explained in detail further in this write up. The primary colorization of the Kouen is a brilliant blue, which is the most common color of the species. Along the line and in increasing rarity in colorization are reds, greens, yellows and finally the rarest of colorization being that of silver. These colors themselves allowed for the ancient Kouen species to fall into a natural hierarchical caste system based upon the colorization of their crystalline bodies.
As those colors above are the most common and often the most seen; it is highly rare and unusual to find a Kouen that is of a different color than that of the mentioned progression above. Likewise it is more common to see those Kouen that have an unusual colorization, alone in the galaxy than with their own species. The reasoning behind this is that the Kouen species view any member of the species whose color deviates from caste based blues, reds, greens, yellows and silver; to be a manifestation of chaos, calamity and destruction. These members of the species are thus cast out from their society to ensure that no harm befalls the other members of the species.

As a crystalline species; the Kouen have no visible hair on their bodies, be it on their head or elsewhere. As such there is no color noted, nor has a Kouen been seen to date with any visible hair that was naturally grown. For the species themselves they find the concept of hair to be odd. To this end they do not fully understand the reason behind hair that some species have and seem to be a bit baffled as to why some cultures focus on the shaping and molding of hair; representing various meanings.
