Strengths:

+Excellent at running down personal shields, especially in stun mode.
+Resistant to ion attacks/EMPs.

Weaknesses:

- Ultracapacitors are vulnerable to cook-off when directly struck by energy.
- The beam generation assembly is temperamental. Even moderate shocks can cause crystal misalignment. In that event, the whole weapon will automatically power down until the misalignment is corrected.

Description:

While the Kiribian military adopted the Grendel as its new service rifle, KSA continued work on its original Famos concept to create an improved model for the export market. With help from the Jedi Arisa Yune as a consultant and their own advances in power storage, they were able to create a streamlined weapon with greatly improved operating times.

The original gas based system for beam generation was replaced by a solid state system inspired by lightsaber operation. Ion energy from ultracapacitors is channeled through a lab-grown synthetic crystal to create particle beam. As the beam exits the barrel, it passes through an ion gate to strip it of excess electrons, converting it into a neutral particle beam. In a neutral state, there’s much less dispersion over distance as the particles don’t repulse from each other like a typical charged particle beam, which translates into a much higher effective range and more damage on target in comparison to standard blaster weapons of similar class.

This new beam setup lacks the raw offensive punch of the Mk 1 (That role now fulfilled by the Grendel), but the continuous beam offers consistent output that can be focused into one area to maximize damage.

The stun mode from the Mk 1 was retained, firing a wide beam of ions in continuous pulses. While meant to be non-lethal, the stun mode can be especially crippling to synthetic targets and electronics and potentially cause heart failure or seizures. Against melee opponents, the stun mode functions as a CQB option for close encounters.

The original integrated coil type repulsor mass driver of the Mk 1 was replaced by a new setup that uses an array to generate focused beams of anti-gravity to launch projectiles. Otherwise, it has identical performance to the original, lacking the range of a dedicated repulsor weapon like the Grendel.
