Strengths:

  • Highly resistant to EMP/Ion Attacks.

Description:

The KF-04 Kestrel is a single seat or unmanned starfighter/drone primarily designed for anti-ship attacks and bombardment. Like its namesake, it’s meant to swoop in low against enemy capital ships, to skim along the surface of their hulls for trench runs. However, with its modular [SIZE=10pt]loadouts[/SIZE], it operates well in other roles delivering its payloads at range.

It was originally developed especially for the Kiribian Spacy, its characteristics as a fairly agile assault fighter suiting their preferences for blitz tactics based around precision hyperspace jumps designed to disrupt and surround enemy formations. The increasing use of gravity traps and interdictors had put a damper on such tactics, but with the use of the HIMS-enabled Zephyr hyperdrive, that’s not an issue for the Kestrel.

You've pushed armament rating up to moderate.

You've pushed defences up to moderate. However in this you have: Molecular shielding, Redundant shielding, EMP resistance, Tractor Shroud.

Please change this rating to High

Please remove this system as it is clearly only suitable for capital ships and replace with a very light redundant shield

On top of this the ship has average speed/man but the flexibility of accelerating to very high speeds in a straight line.

You've included a field disruptor so that it can fly through shields. Add this to strengths and make clear that it cannot be used to breach a capital ship's shields and deliver bombs/fire weapons as this would be unbalanced.

So for all the advantages above a standard bomber do you feel that the weaknesses are appropriately balanced? Please make the changes listed above and then suggest some appropriate weaknesses that would make me consider approval.

On the field disruptor, I made a note that this thing was meant to be used to slip through static shields like planetary shields or the one the Rebels used at Hoth in Episode 5. If I can't use it for that at least, then I'll just drop it.

Removed Opal sensor, and bumped up the defense rating to high while dropping manoeuvrability to low.

So what I have is an assault fighter with good defenses and straight line speed, but it comes at the cost of some dogfighting capability (lack of fixed guns, relatively low maneuverability in relation to other ships in its size and class). It's meant to drop in for a quick run, blast off, then reset for another attack. It's not good for loitering in an area for extended fights against dedicated interceptors, especially in atmospheric combat.
