Kelric Thann

Something of a Scientist

Name: Kelric Thann
Age: 37
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Force Sensitive: No
Career: Scientist; physicist, chemist and biologist

Appearance:

He wears a tailored lab coat styled like a long, dark grey tailcoat with a subtle Imperial insignia etched into the buttons and collar. Black gloves, utility belt filled with vials, scanners, and miniature datapads. Sleek black boots and a compact respirator clipped to his belt "just in case." Short, slightly unkempt brown hair with a single streak of white. He also wears a monocle over his right eye which contains it's own HUD display.

Weapons:

Mostly just a standard DH-17 blaster pistol.

Personality:

Hyper-competent but grounded: He is genuinely brilliant. Despite this, he's perfectly willing to say, "I have no idea," and start asking questions immediately.
Curious and observant: He's not easily impressed by rank, titles, or ideology—but show him a new lifeform, an unexplained energy reading, or a failed assumption, and you'll have his full attention.
Honest and dryly witty: He doesn't boast, but if someone around him is clearly wrong and smug about it, he will delight in a measured, precise correction that leaves little room for rebuttal.
Not needlessly cruel: He doesn't enjoy the violence or authoritarianism that some organisations would assume from his work, he simply sees the system as a framework that grants him access to data, funding, and resources. "Morally flexible," not malicious.
Polite: He is a polite man, referring by titles (even if not impressed by them) and tries to keep a composed and professional atmosphere with others.
A realist in danger: When threatened, Kelric does not bluff. He will admit when he has no exit plan, and if forced into combat, he will aim to distract, disable, or negotiate before resorting to violence.

Strengths:

Genius-Level Intellect: Expert in physics, biology, and chemistry; capable of making groundbreaking discoveries and experimental designs that even the Empire's top minds find difficult to follow.
Pragmatic Self-Awareness: Knows when he's out of his depth and isn't afraid to admit ignorance or retreat. This allows him to survive where others would die from arrogance or pride.
Curiosity Over Ego: Fascinated by the unknown rather than threatened by it. This makes him unusually open-minded for an Imperial, allowing him to collaborate with unlikely sources or explore radical ideas.

Weaknesses:

Limited Combat Ability: Not trained for frontline combat. In high-risk physical confrontations, he must rely on others or his environment to survive.
Social Awkwardness: His fascination with flaws in logic or science can make him accidentally condescending or dismissive, leading to tension with peers or superiors.
Moral Greyness: More interested in what can be done than what should be. This can lead to ethically questionable decisions that alienate others or attract scrutiny from both allies and enemies.
Intellectual Overreach: Occasionally dives too deep into dangerous or forbidden science, driven by curiosity—sometimes ignoring political, mystical, or Force-related consequences he doesn't fully understand.

Background:

Kelric was born in the city of Thyndor on the ecumenopolis of Brentaal IV, a vital trading hub where noble houses and merchant guilds clashed constantly. His family belonged to the lower-tier intellectual caste—respected, but not powerful. His mother was a chemist who treated waterborne diseases in offworld colonies, and his father was a low-level logistics analyst for a minor shipping house.

Kelric, an only child, spent much of his youth surrounded by data terminals and chemical vials. Even as a child, he showed a profound ability to understand systems: biological, mechanical, societal. He quickly outpaced his tutors and began conducting unsanctioned experiments—some of which accidentally set off small chemical chain reactions in his school labs.

When he was old enough, he was offered a place at the Brentaal Science Institute, one of the Core Worlds' most prestigious science academies. He graduated and eventually decided to begin to find work for companies that would allow him his desired degree of freedom with his work.
