[SIZE=9pt]The Ke'dem tester ring is a tiny, specialized bit of alchemical enchantment packed into a featureless durasteel ring. Comparable in function to standard Old Republic Jedi blood tests, the ring assesses midichlorian count. A small patch on the bottom of the ring responds to contact with the bare skin of a being other than the wearer. Ten seconds after contact is made, the wearer feels a pulse pattern corresponding to the other's midichlorian count. The patterns can only be interpreted by someone who knows what they mean; anyone else might think it was gibberish in dadita or a similar dot-dash code. Contact is painless, as it assesses skin cells rather than blood. [/SIZE]

The ring is useless when trying to assess any species other than mammals and reptilians. Most importantly, the ring assesses midichlorian count, not any of the other factors which influence Force potential, and certainly not Force strength. An infant or a dissolute fool with a count of 8,000 will register as a significantly higher priority than a disciplined, intelligent, imaginative Grandmaster with a count of 6,000.[/SIZE]
