SPECIAL FEATURES
The KD Lockbox is a countermeasure device installed on fighter craft and other small vehicles. It is designed as a reactive defense module to prevent or defeat tracking by electronic sensory-guided weapons.
The unit has three components, each of which can be activated exclusively or in combination with any of the other components:
Fleck Chaff and Angel Flares
Fleck Chaff is composed of millions of tiny agrinium particles, which are stored in launch tubes on the back of the Lockbox device. When the caps containing these particles are ejected, the metallic particles are released in a momentarily thick cloud. The initial saturation and reflective property of these agrinium flecks can disperse directed laser and infrared guidance beams briefly.
Angel Flares, like Fleck Chaff, are loaded into small launch tubes on the back of the Lockbox and stored in combustible caps. When ejected, they cast incandescent casings of deuterium in a wide, horizontal arc. These flares emit heat for approximately 2 seconds, by which time their fuel has been consumed or the casing has been burned through and the oxygen released and depleted. They are intended to distract heat-seeking missiles from their original target. Each use reduces the likelihood of being struck by an oncoming missile but in no way guarantees safety.
This component of the Lockbox varies in capacity based on size or defensive focus of the ship on which it is installed.
Flash Dazzler
The Flash Dazzler component emits a brief and blinding flash of light rapidly with intervals randomly ranging between 0.07 and 0.13 seconds. This is intended to disrupt photoreceptive tracking by visually-guided missiles and droids.
Abuse of the Flash Dazzler is very dangerous, as it can harm the vision of nearby friendly pilots as well as hostile.
Sonic Emitter
The sonic emitter contains a subwoofer driver that produce sound at levels up to 280 decibels, and at frequencies from 0.01 hertz to 20 hertz. These infrasonic waves carry long distances and are used to disrupt ultrasonic sensors or simply to blast some sickeningly powerful bass tones.
As this component relies on sound, it is useless outside atmosphere.
The Lockbox is typically installed in the vicinity of a fighter craft’s aft thrusters. Its production size varies depending upon the size and shape of the craft being modified.
