Similar to its predecessor, the Kay'calyr was able to be controlled by a rider. The cockpit was accesed through the abdomen which was also where a small number of troops could be held. The controls were designed for one rider on the seat, or "saddle" and were designed similarly to a swoop bike. An up-link cable could also be used to upload and transfer data quickly between a Mandalorian rider and his or her Kay'calyr, connecting it to the complex HUD control center Mandalorian helmets are well known for. Atop the abdomen there was also a rapid firing laser turret that could only be utilized by either a physical person or through the up-link cable in the saddle, though the latter was incredibly difficult and more often than not a pair operated the metal beast.
Equipped with metal claws and magnetized feet, the Kay'calyr also had little trouble scaling walls or even the hulls of ships. The droid was also sealed for limited use in space. The hope was to use them as asteroid mounted artillery. Similar to the classic Bes'uliik, the Kay'calyr's advanced droid brain acted similarly to an animal's and powerful bonds between riders and the droid were common.
Unfortunately the droid would see little combat with the One Sith, though their incredible carry capacity and troop bays that doubled as sturdy cargo holds proved invaluable in reconstruction efforts throughout the galaxy.
