- Description: The Hardback is one of the many species of turtles found in the Kattadan sea. The Hardback is unique as over the course of their very extended life they can grow to a massive size. An herbivore species, the Hardback is known as a symbol of patience and protection. Once they reach a certain size, they are unable to crawl ashore and spawn. Due to this, there is a post-adulthood life phase which allows the Hardbacks fortunate enough to grow to this size, a life of constant peaceful migration as even the Pelagic Serpent won't go for prey of its size.

- General behavior: Born on sandy Kattadan beaches, on the larger islands, the clutches of eggs make their way to the sea, as is common for sea turtles. They live solitary lives in the warm reefs of Kattada as they grow, riding the ocean currents over the course of the year, returning to the sands to lay their eggs. As the species grows, eventually they lose the ability of reproduction and remain in the sea, traveling the oceans.
Native to Kattada, the Hardback is a sea turtle species that grows to very large sizes. Peaceful and calm, the Hardbacks are seen as a symbol of protection and peace on the world. Small carvings made out of fragments of the shells of the deceased that are found in the reef or on the beaches. Young hunters of Kattada make it part of their coming of age rituals to collect full shells that can be fashioned into shields. The leather skin scales and even fragments have been used by warriors from different worlds for protective uses.
