Special Features:

• Ignores and bypasses all currently extant types of shielding (stock).
• Good at disabling things, but causes no physical damage apart from fried electronics, etc. (the usual effects of an ion strike).
• At 80% of normal ion strength, a full magazine's worth of fire has equivalent disabling power to 8 shots from a standard man-portable or starfighter-scale ion cannon. A full magazine is usually sufficient to completely disable main battle tanks, heavy walkers, and some subcapital starships.

Description: The Kathol Junker Cannon is a starfighter-scale Conqueror Ion Cannon, cut down and affixed to a stock and bipod. In all other respects, its capabilities are identical to a Conqueror Ion Cannon. It suffers from the following limitations:

• Very low ammunition capacity.
• Requires specific and heavy magazines.
• Heavy and poorly balanced; accurate, sustained use often requires a bipod; generally not suitable for personal combat.
• 80% as effective per shot as a standard man-portable ion cannon.

Conqueror Ion Cannons are derived from Qektoth Confederation technology, found several months' journey past Kal'Shebbol into the least charted areas of the Kathol Outback. Qektoth technology was, at one point, obtained by the Fringe Confederation, but proved unwieldy and was only ever employed on a single class of vessel. When the Rebel Alliance obtained one of those vessels, the guns were cannibalized for emergency use and research purposes. Eventually, the Alliance's successor, the Underground, identified the source of the technology and sent an eighteen-month expedition into the Kathol Outback. The expedition succeeded in, among other things, procuring and adapting large amounts of Qektoth weapons technology, then returning to the known galaxy. The adapted and captured weapons were sold to Silk Holdings in return for access to derivative technologies.

The primary obstacle to duplication of Qektoth ionic weapons principles was the partially biological nature of Qektoth technology. Between the efforts of the Underground expedition and the Silk R&D teams, the precise energy/particle effects of Qektoth ionic weaponry were duplicated through wholly technological means, and weaponized into limited production. This cut-down version is even rarer, and is considered semi-unique.

The resulting weapons, in a holdover from the Qektoth weapons, cause immense power drain, hence the cut-down version's minimal ammunition capacity.
