Street-Level Darksider

Name: Karter (Real name Kultram Desperaux)

Faction: None. (Dark Jedi down on his luck)

Rank: None. He's a Dark Jedi who decided to come out of the desert on a mission of his own. (Apprentice largely, in terms of skill)

Species: Human Corellian (Possible Epicanthix ancestry in background)

Sex: Male

Height: 6'2

Weight: 200 pounds

Eyes: A cold brown color, though sulfurous under influence of the Dark Side

Skin: Pale

Force Sensitive: Yes

Strengths:

Highly observant. Capable of picking up on minute details and facial cues, and can tell whether or not someone is lying usually.

Marksman--Karter is just as comfortable with a blaster as he is with a lightsaber, and will often fight with one, catching others off guard with his skill, especially other Force Users. However, he's been out of action.

Force Skill: Karter has mostly very basic, generic Force Powers, but he's also pyrokinetic

Lightsaber: He has a familiarity with three lightsaber styles, and knows how to build and repair a lightsaber

Determination: Once Karter has set his mind to something, he will try to see it through to the end.

Mental Strength: Due to possible Epicanthix DNA Karter is highly resistant to mental attacks, bordering on immunity to them.

Dog like loyalty: If he decides you're a friend, you stay a friend. He'll stand by you in your darkest hour...even if it could get him horribly killed.

Weaknesses:

Bad boxer: Karter is terrible at hand to hand combat and always has been. Without an actual weapon he sucks in a fight unless he can still use the Force

Unreliable Narrator: Karter's heritage may protect him from without but not from within. Trauma and an undiagnosed condition causes his perceptions to warp causing him to see (and be influenced by) the memory of a Sith Lady he was once associated with. In a state of great rage literally everything and everyone he sees will twist to a warped, nightmarish, version of themselves, and even affects his Force powers in semi unpredictable ways,

Bites off more than he can chew: In states of extreme anger, he won't think too far ahead. He generally does not consider long term consequences. This has led him into dangerous situations he has trouble extricating himself from.

Poor: Karter has almost nothing to his name beyond a ship and some weapons. He knows he needs work as soon as he leaves where he was in hiding.

Late to the party: Karter has been so removed from galactic affairs for so long he'll be completely flabbergasted at some of the people and situations he encounters. Also hasn't talked to hardly anyone in years, making him inherently mistrustful.

Atrophied: Karter was once a lot more skilled with his powers and lightsaber but years of life in the desert as a hermit on Jakku has caused a once somewhat formidable skill set to degrade severely.

Appearance: Torn, patched together civilian clothes with a simple black cloak and hood, also frayed and torn everywhere. He has a desert tan and wild eyes, and usually keeps a makeshift cloth mask around his face.

Weapons:

CorSec Service pistol: Karter's blaster, which he carried all his days as a detective, fastidiously maintained and accurate (Bears an aesthetic resemblance to the real life TT-33 pistol)

Lightsaber: This weapon was made by Karter during his youth, and is cobbled together from the Lightsabers of several others. It's hilt is twice that of a regular hilt, and emits a red blade .25 times longer than a standard saber hilt.

Light foil: A troubled gift from Karter's original Dark Jedi Master, Ryleya the Geo-Witch. Black in color and emits a pencil-thin red blade.

Bio: Karter of Jakku was originally a CorSec Homicide Detective known as Kultram Desperaux. His family was famous for their resistance to mental attacks and for giving their children to the Order. Kultram was once considered for this honor but he openly refused to be taken by the Jedi, or even the Green Jedi because he loved his family too much to leave them forever. When his baby brother was born, he begged his mother not to give him to the order, but his mother, sensing the boy had a destiny as a Jedi, eventually relented and gave him up to one of their recruiters. Kultram never forgave his mother for her decision, not even after she was killed in a vehicle accident two weeks after giving his brother to the Jedi. His anger drove a wedge between him and his father, ruining what childhood he had, their enmity over his refusal to forgive his mother lasting well into his teenage years as he became a shiftless youth in the streets of Coronet, picking up amateur Detective skills and becoming a thief and under the Radar smuggler who's main specialization was that he was quiet and unnoticed in a crowd due to his youth. He would later put his street knowledge of various criminal techniques to use when he tried to reform and work for CorSec, in an attempt to turn over a new leaf and perhaps heal the rift between him and his father, who was also a CorSec officer.

Kultram proved to be a natural at the job, so good in fact that he quickly became the person to talk to when it came to solving the unsolvable. He especially had a knack for solving murders perpetrated by Force Users, and was considered for a time to be one of the best investigators in the department. But he was not without his flaws. His anger issues caused many accusations of assault and battery by the very suspects he brought in and he was dismissive of the Jedi whenever they tried to offer their assistance, having harbored resentment towards them all those years for their role in the destruction of his family. He viewed his chance for revenge as having come at last when a Jedi stood accused of murdering a CorSec officer in cold blood and his bias caused him to ignore any and all evidence to her innocence, culminating in him destroying a key piece of evidence that would have exonerated her completely. She was imprisoned and later murdered in the cell she had been stuck in. It was the only time Kultram had ever let his emotion get the better of him and condemn an innocent to an unjust fate.

The decision would later come back to haunt him when the Jedi's Padawan, who would later turn out to be none other than his own brother investigated the case and discovered Kultram's guilt, destroying his career and causing him to be imprisoned personally by his brother. Kultram's hatred of the Jedi boiled over behind bars and he escaped, vowing to do whatever it took to make the Jedi pay for ruining his life. He found training for his latent Force sensitivity by a coven of Dark Side Witches living quietly on Jakku, and was trained in the Dark Side by a Shi'ido disguised as a disgusting bloated Twi'lek hag named Ryleya. Taking an anonymous, nondescript alias "Karter of Jakku", he waged a silent campaign of violence and terror on all Jedi he could find, accruing a massive bounty, and causing his own family to denounce and disown him when the shame of one of their own having gone to the darkness came to the light. Karter killed Jedi and destroyed their Lightsabers out of spite, not even wanting to keep them as trophies, for in his mind at that point they were less than people, and he actively dehumanized them.

But eventually, Karter began to tire of the violence, and when the coven that trained him demanded the custody of a girl he had recently adopted to abate his own horrifying loneliness, citing her destiny, Karter angrily slew them all by firing on their hidden compound with his ship...or thought he had, because he was certain his master had escaped the butchering. He then took his daughter and retired from the world of Dark Siders, living quietly with his child out in the wastes of Tattooine. His daughter, who was already in her early teens when he adopted her, grew into a young adult who yearned to explore the stars one day again, despite his insistence that only death and insanity was to be found with the galaxy in the fractured state it was.

One day, his daughter vanished, and a squad of Jedi Hunters showed up at his wasteland shack to kill him. They failed, of course, and Karter, fearful of what he will find once again going into a Galaxy he feels was best left to rot and suffer finds himself picking up his lightsaber again, for he senses his old Master's hand at work...but can a washed up Dark Side Marauder who got out of the game when the getting was good really wade back into the vicious slog he tried so desperately (and ultimately, in vain) to escape successfully up his skill in time to find his daughter, make as much of a profit as possible, and get out before all the bigger fish crush him?

Let's find out...
