Description: Based on Clan Rekali's skill at making space stations and starships, and the expense of large shield generators, the Clan Elders decided to develop their own line. The Kar'ara'novor (Star Shield) is designed for installation on large space stations (generally >2,000m) and can be used for planetary emplacement purposes. If linked to a command-ship-grade reactor, the shield is strong enough to deflect any bombardment. Its immense power drain makes it absolutely unsuitable for warships or dedicated defense stations.

The Kar'ara'novor has three modes, each one completely standard for a shield generator of this magnitude. If the Kar'ara'novor innovates at all, the innovation lies in the ability to switch between modes.

Under Mode One ('Siege Mode'), the Kar'ara'novor projects a standard encasing shield around the station or planet where the generator is installed. From Wookieepedia:

It was a type of encasing shield, making it cheaper to produce and able to operate longer, but created a solid wall of energy which did not allow friendly ships and weapons fire to pass through except heavily-guarded firing slots or gaps.

Under Mode Two ('Donor Mode'), the Kar'ara'novor projects a standard encasing shield around an object in orbit.

...the SLD-26 planetary shield generator was capable of protecting a small moon or large space station with a nearly impenetrable energy shield for an indefinite amount of time.

Under Mode Three ('Transit Mode'), the Kar'ara'novor projects a standard shutter shield around the station or planet where the generator is installed.

The Nyalsan II Planetary Shield was a common planetary shield system produced by DefenStar Limited. It was a type of shutter shield, using overlapping energy fields to combine for greater defense or open up to allow friendly weapons fire and ships to pass through. While more versatile it relied on a decentralized power supply to spread the power load and could not be used to project a defensive shield around an orbiting object.

Strengths:

• Can switch between three standard modes.
• Can defend large space stations and planets, like any planetary shield generator.

Weaknesses:

• Switching between modes takes several minutes, during which no shield coverage is available.
• Due to significant mode-dependent power requirements, cannot be used on warships or dedicated defense stations.
