Karai
New Member
NAME: Karai
FACTION: Mandalorian Empire
RANK: None
SPECIES: Human
AGE: 23
SEX: Female
HEIGHT: 5'0"
WEIGHT: 110lbs
EYES: Gray
HAIR: Black
SKIN: Olive
FORCE SENSITIVITY: None
Strengths & Weaknesses:
+ Ingenuity - Always with her mind on problems, whether distant or present, solving a problem is the kind of thing Karai simply does. She has yet to encounter an issue that couldn't be solved by simply throwing more gun at it.
+Keen Eye, Steady Hands - Karai has spent much of her life tinkering, searching for minute details and design flaws buried in piles of quantum math. Her years of soldering and testing weapons has lead her to become rather proficient at handling most smaller weapons, without the muscle fatigue shake that others of her size might encounter.
Privileged Education - Karai was lucky enough amongst her peers to be taught high above the curve at a rather prestigious university.
-Small Stature - While not unfit, Karai was not built for hand to hand combat. She prefers to keep enemies at arm's length, or more accurately, maximum effective range.
-Hyperfocused - A boon during design phases and testing of said designs, remaining too focused on any particular thing may lead to tunnel vision thus forgetting about other aspects that may be apparent.
-Socially Inept - Karai tended to lock herself away rather than socialize with peers. She tends to be brash and a bit insulting without meaning to, and doesn't understand body language very well, beyond a purely scientific point of view.
Appearance:
Karai stands at a rather minuscule 5 feet even, weighing little more than 110 pounds soaking wet with a pocket full of osmium. She is thin, but well-toned from a childhood of training on behalf of her father. Her neck-length black hair is typically unkempt, only cleaned when some sort of chemical spill forces her into an emergency shower or when presenting a new design to potential buyers. She has wide eyes and a habit of furrowing her eyebrows in thought. She has six fingers and toes on each hand, though her left hand is a prosthetic and interchangeable, with various different models to suit a particular need, though she is never without a standard six-fingered hand attachment.
BIOGRAPHY
Growing up in a nameless house, Karai was off to a bad lot in life until some of her teachers noticed her knack for tinkering with electronics and machinery. They were astounded when a 9 year old Karai was able to completely refurbish an old school protocol droid with a malfunctioning motivation core with parts sourced from a 'donated' datapad. She was subsequently tested, and while her social functionality nearly failed her from the program, she was given a scholarship to attend a university specializing in modern engineering. It was there she found a calling, no longer tied down by the necessity of social interaction, she through herself into her work, becoming an expert in physics and quantum mechanics, though her knowledge of chemistry and biology did not atrophy with her newfound focus.
After earning what would amount to a Master's Degree at age 20, with a thesis based around quantum interactions in semi-superconductors she would love to explain, she became enamored with the various wars the Mandalorians had been involved in. Her father had done his level best to create a warrior, but her mother had prevented him from going too far when she proved mostly indifferent. However, weapons still fascinated her. With this came tinkering and experimentation, until she was able to improve the efficiency of her father's best blaster pistol to fire an extra few shots with each reload.
Impressed with her own work, she began convincing others to let her experiment with their weapons. During a test on an older model E-11 type rifle, the plasma compression chamber exploded, shearing her left arm off up the her elbow. Despite the mixture of pain, anesthetics and disappointment, Karai deduced that the problem was with the quality of the powercell she had purchased from BlasTech. Working one-handed while a medical droid attached a prosthetic limb, she was able to pull apart the powercell and see that her assumption was correct, and the output from BlasTech's "shoddy-ass" high-capacity cell varied wildly from specification. From that point, Karai devoted herself to creating weapons and vehicles that didn't "suck so hard they rivaled a black hole."
Ship:
Karai has a late model Wayfarer-class ship she begrudgingly named 'Dirty Girl,' since her mother and father refused to let her call it 'Dirty queen' during the ship's registration. It had previously been a nearly-scrapped pile of filth, missing everything from a hyperdrive system to basic niceties, like vacuum-tight window seals. Rebuilt to better-than-new condition, Karai and her ship set out to build weapons and make money. Despite repeated attempts, however, she was never able to improve the hyperdrive to the level of the legendary Millennium Falcon(she was certain Han was a lying sack of bantha crap.)
