Name: Kan'Dul

Classification: Urban Center

Location: Zarnathea

Affiliation: The First Order.

Population: 2'000'000

Demographics: 47% Nar'iin, 33% Vax, 15% Human, 5% Trandoshian.

Points of Interest:
The Governors Palace: Originally built 30 BBY by Naboo architects imported by then President Ha-drol Kah-ni, the Palace was built initially as a place for local government officials to meet and discuss legislation. However as politics moved to a more centralized form of government, the parliament fell into disuse. It's once grand halls falling silent. With the arrival of the First Order however, the old parliament was promptly renovated. It returned to its former glory, now the headquarters for First Order governance of the city. The location of the palace, is in central Kan'Dul, surrounded by lush gardens. The palaces grounds, and the palace itself all together make up nine kilometre's squared, making it a lush green oasis in a heavily urbanized area. Four meter high sandstone walls surround the perimeter. An extra deterrent is the 400 personnel who guard the palace and its grounds zealously.

Spaceport: Kan'Dul spaceport is one of the cities most modern areas. While the rest of the city uses antiquated, and older architecture, the spaceport is an area that has received the most maintenance. Approximately 400 star ships, ranging from the light x-wing, all the way to frigates can find space to land, at the cost of exorbitant docking fees and taxes. The spaceport houses two battalions of troops from both local, and First Order forces who ensure that there are no unwanted arrivals or stowaways. The spaceport is built with its own miniature slave pen to house imminent departures for Vax slaves.

Slave Pens:Walled off from other sectors of the city by a large concrete wall, is the slave pens. Populated exclusively by Vax, this is their quarter of the city, where they live in the fear of being plucked by Trandoshian slavers, and other undesirables. The Vax barter their goods off of heavily armed Nar'iin traders who venture into the slums and charge as much as quadruple their usual prices. The streets are filthy as the Vax have long ago been cut off from the rest of the cities sanitation system, leaving their http://s.ngm.com/2007/05/dharavi-mumbai-slum/img/dharavi-industry-615.jpg]garbage and sewerage in the streets[/url].

Gar'ard Barracks: For centuries the Nar'iin government have used Gar'ard Barracks as the command center for forces in the city, and surrounding areas. It's situated in the cities centre, twelve city blocks away from the Governors Palace, and the other civil service offices. It occupies it's own block of land which is surrounded by a large stone wall. The barracks holds the largest tower in the city, which occupies a blaster emplacement, and a sniper nest. It occupies ten square kilometres of land. The barracks allow for 20'000 soldiers to be housed on base, but has a limited hangar capacity. It houses two squadrons of fighters and three gunships or landers. The base relies on antiquated speeders rather than gunships for the transport of troops.

Market District: Key to any Zarnathean city, is the eastern market district. A long, uninterrupted sprawl of highly built up alleyways and bazaars make up this area of the city. Located in the western side of central Kan'Dul, the markets are always crowded. The markets are either set up in side alleys as well as taking up streets, and squares.

Description: Kan'Dul is divided into four different sectors. The first is the outer western sector. It is made up of suburban housing, sprawling out into the jungles. These neighbourhoods are then divided into three tiers, with the lowest economic earners living on the outer ring of the city, and wealthier citizens living further and further into the core. The inner CBD is dominated by Gar'ard Barracks, and the Governors Palace. It's home to many of the more metropolitan businesses such as the offices for importers, lawyers and other bureaucratic occupations. The eastern side of the city is populated by the Vax, who live in a large, walled off part of the city where they fall victim to slavers, and often racial violence against them. On the eastern outskirts sits the space port. Unlike many others where it's multi-tiered, or even underground, the spaceport is all above ground on a huge strip of tarmac.

History: Kan'Dul began in 500 BBY as a small trading port established by Trandoshian slavers and their Nar'iin backers who wished to create a slaving post there. Their operation was successful, very successful that it drew mercenaries to bring their families. To accommodate their families, the Nar'iin provided bureaucrats and engineers to create a compound which they could be safely secured in. This expanded further, into the jungle, and soon it began to take a life of its own. While the main export would be slavery, it took a backseat in 390 BBY, when a sizeable Bronzium was discovered. The boom lasted for a century, and saw Kan'Dul briefly overtake Nar'Tan as the most populous city on the planet. However, things weren't to last. In 285 BBY, Far'dar the Conquerer, a Vax tribal leader and guerrilla took the city, and for thirty years it stood as the temporary Vax capitol. This further lead to the decline, of the city, and it went to disrepair. The city was taken back later by Mandolorian mercenaries in 254 BBY. Kan'Dul however would remain a backwater planet's, backwater city until 41 BBY, during the so called Zarnathean renaissance. Seeking a city to remodel, President Bor-rar Kr-ish, used Kan'Dul as a prototype for his upcoming renovations to Nar'Tan. With this, the city was seen as an idyllic tourist hotspot, a position it held for the next five centuries. That was until the slave trade picked up again thanks to the defeat of the First Vax Rebellion in 556 ABY. This lead to the establishment of the Vax slave pens, and the breeding of Vax slaves.

Intent: To add to the character of Zarnathea.
