STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
+ Loyal to a fault, once you have earned his trust Kai can be depended upon to follow through with promises that he issues — he is not the type to move about the most direct route. While unorthodox in his methods, there is no contest in his dutifulness.
+ From the very start of his training, it was discovered that he has an overwhelming degree of perfectionism dedicated to his efforts. A double-edged sword, this can impede the quality of his work until it is up to his satisfaction.
+ Tenacity is one of his unfaltering pillars, which truly shines in the display of how stubborn he is. Despite the odds and critical viewpoints of society, Kai has for some unknown reason refused to give up. Bets exist on whether it is to prove others wrong, or simply to keep himself alive in the chaotic state of the galaxy.
+ Instinctive, and capable of reading others reasonably well, Kai is an analytical individual at his very core. From this he has derived a respectable ability to talk or strategize his way out of sticky situations, if he sees any benefit in doing so over action. A big if.
+ Holding an innate sense of morals, Kai has found himself facing adversity with personal sacrifices on more occasions than he’d like to admit. Despite this, he restrains himself from violating a code of ethics in which to never harm an innocent. Do not, however, mistake this as a sign of complete selflessness.
+ Chaos is a state of which Kai radiates tranquility, often finding a method to attain organization against the perils he faces. Employing it against his opponents, this can make him a tremendously unwieldy and unpredictable adversary. Still, it is ironic that his yearning to fix things will drive him up the wall until he achieves order.
+ Years of being on the run, and constantly hunted has forced Kai to become naturally resourceful with both his surroundings, and working with limited supplies honed towards the focus of a larger picture. Keeping the ship running alone, despite having little to no crew has proven this.
- Patience is a virtue that Kai does not hold dear to his heart, far preferring timely action before crucial opportunities disappear. In times where he must ‘wait something out’, the man can become highly anxious. Unless he is working diligently to achieve a goal that requires such an effort of him, don’t expect him to bide his time well.
- Better to ask for forgiveness, than permission. An approach that has gotten him into trouble far more than someone of his age should ever risk. Kai is quick on his feet, but also ignorant to the big picture when his emotions cloud his judgement. Maintaining control over them is a constant struggle in his daily life.
- An ability to be civil does not mean it is one that is exercised frequently. Kai is a particularly blunt person, unless the situation demands that he be silver-tongued. Hyper critical, pessimistic to some degree, and foreboding in his perspective, it originated from his desire to set himself apart form his peers.
- There are times when the lad can’t take a situation seriously. Sarcasm and spite are part of his regular arsenal. Having a tendency to vex his overseers, unless they hold a considerable degree of self-restraint and open-mindedness, Kai has earned the ire of more than his fair share of employers.
- Emotions run deep within this bloke, as a characteristic of which he imbues to every element of his trade and craft. Often at odds with the Jedi and Sith he has crossed paths with, Kai harbors an immediate distrust towards extremist factions.
- Bureaucracy is among his greatest irritants. Skeptic of the motives of politicians, the bloke has a potent case of hatred towards the role. This said, he acknowledges that sometimes it is necessary, having played the part of a diplomat in minor occasions.
- Achieving his trust is a monumental task for anyone to take upon themselves. For nearly three quarters of his life Kai has been treated as an outcast of society, serving under the fringes of poverty. While his situation has since improved, Kai has a tendency to bear a ‘screw everyone’ attitude when consorting with oligarchs or nobles.

PERSONALITY
Emotions run deep within this bloke, and patience has never been among Kai’s playing cards — he’s fortunate that he wasn’t discovered as a force sensitive by another cabal, lest he wish to have his life effectively ended. Whether terminated or involuntarily compelled to do work for others, the Jen’saarai is a strong willed individual that made Glo’ra take extra care into honing his training around his susceptibility of becoming irritated easily.

His birthplace is largely a misandristic society, which has led him to harbor a strong distaste for unequal footing anywhere in the galaxy. Led to believe that everyone deserves rights to at least some degree, achieving balance has become his forefront drive into continuing on. Establishing a foothold amongst the twilight, Kai navigates the narrow path between light and dark with a scrutinous and often reckless approach, that can easily send him teetering to either side for a brief period of time. Still, he does his best to carry forth the guidance delivered to him by his mentors and live through a neutral perspective.

Viewing the Force as a tool to be harnessed and cherished has led him to believe, like many other Jen’saarai, that it is not innately good nor evil. Rather, it is up to the individual and how they wield it that determines the outcomes from their actions. Those with malicious intents will deliver cruel results. Naturally, when he encounters Jedi or Sith whom find themselves anchored to their beliefs…this can produce a clash verbally.

Despite his approaches, however, Kai finds himself with an insatiable curiosity towards self improvement, which typically leads to the paranoia of his peers. Thriving in chaos, he is not one to admit his strengths, knowing very well how society might view him because of his working methods. Not entirely belligerent, when approached on the matter he can come off with a tense air. Especially if one attempts to invade details of his personal life — something that is effectively non-existent. Underneath, if an individual manages to gain his trust and breach the armored surface he is a courteous fellow that will reciprocate if given basic respects.

Outlined throughout his history, as suggested, trust is something that continues to be an issue for him. Never quite having fit into any society, it is rare for him to give the benefit of the doubt; skepticism is an innate attribute of his. From this, he has derived a dark sense of pessimism since his first master disappeared, and was consequently blamed by both the Jen’saarai and hunted by the Mandalorians for it.

Going hand in hand with his forwardness, Kai is an exceptionally blunt person unless he sees any point in choosing his words carefully. A big if — one generally reserved for diplomacy, a role in which he loathes. Though capable, he is unafraid to speak his mind when he sees an unfair deal and will not waste time on niceties when it is clear that the playing field is not level.

Hawk-eyed (quite literally, if you consider the fact he’s half Firrerreoan), he’s always watching over his shoulder and looking to put opportunities to use as he witnesses them. It is this resourcefulness, creativity, and innovation that has led him to be inspired towards one day working more with his hands in a more practical application — one that does not necessarily require the use of the force. He takes great pleasure in fumbling around technology (typically haphazardly) and developing new means of achieving ends. Of note, he seems to have a knack for creating armor and intricate lightsabers. Something that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, when you look upon his history as a Jen’saarai.

APPEARANCE
Moderately tall and built, Malachai has the finesse of an athlete designed for agility which reflects upon his active lifestyle — constantly on the move to discover new clues of where his master went, and prove himself to his superiors. Lean and slightly muscular, he’s spent a great deal of time exploring ruins and underwater, looking where most would not tread. Robust, and built for speed, rather than holding his ground, it might come as a surprise that Kai is able to harness the energy from his movement into a strength that empowers his work.

Well presented and clean cut, though he doesn’t believe in niceties or bureaucracy, the mid-aged adult can present himself respectably. Chocolate eyes compliment his mahogany locks and tanned skin, hinting away upon the second half of his heritage as a Firrerreoan — a fact that he hides beneath his human traits, due to prejudices across the galaxy. Despite his ability to heal more rapidly than some humanoids, he does burn easily in the sun and has peculiarly sensitive eyes that much prefer darker environments, given their ability to peer into the ultraviolet spectrum. Prone to causing severe headaches, Kai needs to take care when visiting planets exposed closely to stars such as Tatooine.

Upon reaching the apprentice level, Glo’ra encouraged Kai to design a tattoo for his right shoulder blade to symbolize his accomplishments, and respect the traditions of the family he came from. A runed sword, adorned by bladed crests, the design is shared along his armor, and is nestled finely within the hilts of his lightsabers if closely inspected. It keys in to the attention of detail that the man has. Interestingly, like his personality and constant struggle, it is tinted half-way to reflect the fact that sometimes he embodies both ‘dark’ and ‘light’, and must continue to learn to balance walking the fine line.

BIOGRAPHY
Nestled finely within the Wild Space territories, Oberon tends to be forgotten a large portion of the time, as was Haven’s Point — where the story began for the Arias clan. A small family of traders, upon discovering that his partner was pregnant, the family relocated from Haven’s Point on Arbra to Oberon, after searching several years for a planet that shared the same beauties of their home world. Dangerous, yet bountiful their new home was filled with snow-capped mountains and dense forests, in addition to a vast underground network of caverns that harbored mysterious crystalline formations, much like Arbra. A point of refuge for argiculturists, smugglers, and traders, Oberon was found to be mostly peaceful despite the few visitors it attracted from all sects of society.

Peace was not, however, a constant. Shortly after he was born the planet had been invaded and was nearly overrun. A visiting defender from the Jen’saarai stood alone, hidden as a neutral party devoting herself to safeguarding the small community the family had become a part of. Her efforts were, unfortunately, not successful. Many of the residents were killed during the occupation, Kai nearly with them as his parents had been. Taken under her wing, for several months she had toiled to get the duo back to the ship she had hidden within the mountains, departing for a new life. Too young to understand anything, and whom to trust or not, the child was far too malleable to understand why the Jen’saarai had elected to take him with her.

Over the following years, he discovered the truth hidden beneath. Glo’ra, as she revealed herself to be called, had been on a mission to locate a new force sensitive that had been detected in the region, before they had either been killed or taken by another faction. Still, at a mere seven years, he didn’t comprehend the complexities of the lore behind the reasoning, only acknowledging that she had felt it was ‘the right thing to do’. Taken home upon success of her mission, the two landed in Susevfi, of where she had been promoted to the rank of Master, and began raising and teaching him as her own.

The relationship forged between the two resembled that of motherhood, and continued to grow until he reached the age of maturity, and with it…rebelliousness. A mere year before his own Defender trials as an adult, the duo had been assigned to a risky engagement in the Auril sector, beyond the Outer Rim Territories. Hutt Space, of which his master had crossed paths with in the past on not-so-pleasant terms. Tasked with locating valuable minerals for the construction of his armor, while she worked on their assignment, the two were separated. Within an hour of the silence of prodding through the starport, Kai caught wind of a ground of Mandalorians claiming to have captured a Togruta Jedi. Frowning, he pondered if the ‘Jedi’ could have been his master, given the confusion often shared between the identities of the force users.

Retreating back to their ship, the Defender’s Errant, he found a message waiting for him at the communication terminal reflecting the truth of their mission — it had been a one way trip for his master, knowingly. Having hidden the knowledge from him on their arrival and forcing him to stay away, she had effectively given him a second chance, and a clean slate. Tabula Rasa, of which to start his life over with. Rebellious as he was, Kai couldn’t help but feel the guilt in wondering of what happened to Glo’ra, not having sensed her death. As his own docking bay was nearing an inspection after lock down, he initiated the launch sequence on the ship and fled the planet with the heavy shroud of wrongdoing, feeling responsible for the events that had taken place.

As he slept the following night, a vision came to him through dream to travel to a distant planet that had long since been glassed. Finding his way through the star charts, the apprentice plotted a course for Ossus to explore the ruins that he had encountered in his dream. It was there that he met Darius Olar, a rather odd individual that took an immediate hesitation towards him. After a tense meeting, the two parted ways with the knowledge of where to locate the old temple. Whilst delving into the hieroglyphs, the apprentice felt another presence approach, immediately finding himself face to face with an older bloke. One that rubbed him the wrong way, and claimed to have been a master of the force. Why someone would have proclaimed such a feat to a stranger randomly, he had no trustworthy clue, however reflecting upon his vision decided to venture further into the temple with him.

Surely enough, it had proven eventful, though not in a preferable way. The two encountered a duo of force-resistant beings that narrowly missed in crushing him beneath their claws. Confronted by the man once more, Kai revealed his own ability to wield a lightsaber, much to his chagrin. Working together they managed to slay the beasts, letting the awkward air settle as his armor and pistol found themselves irreparably damaged. Leaving Ossus after the encounter, the apprentice returned to his ship to journey out once more into the stars.

Lady Fortune, however it seemed did not have her protective gaze over him. Less than a week into his travels he nearly ran out of fuel over Echoy’la, and was forced to land at a Mandalorian spaceport. The very same territory that had a bounty on his head for over three million credits, for a reason he knew nothing of. Met with opposition, a tense standoff took place upon setting down in which he came face to face with the Mand’alor himself. Nearly an hour into an openly hostile discussion, the waters calmed into negotiation. In return for a brief period of service and the condition that Kai would stick around to learn more about their culture and the arts behind them, his bounty was to be forgiven by the man. If only he knew what the ‘service’ entailed.

Two months following the deliberations, Kai found himself as the lead strategist for assaulting Borosk — one of, if not the most heavily defended planet in the galaxy. A suicide mission. Knowing little of what lied ahead, he gathered a team of select resources, and personnel provided by the Mandalorian Empire to undertake the mission. Perhaps one day, he would look back upon what he had accomplished, if he lived to tell the tale.

COMPETENCIES

✨
Kai has devoted himself to specializing in this proficiency. He may be willing to share his knowledge in these subjects given appropriate persuasion.

White:
Holds a fundamental or theory based understanding. Essentially in name only.

Red:
Capable of performing, in a pinch. Don’t expect consistent results.

Orange:
Skilled, with reliably stable outcomes. Highly unrefined, however.

Yellow:
Adept within this focus. May or may not decide to polish further.

Green:
Expert, or near-mastery — typically reserved for skills he chooses to specialize in.

Jen’saarai
For unanticipated reasoning, in all of her wisdom Glo’ra, Kai’s first master, imparted to him as much knowledge as she had been capable of. Raised in the fashion of the Jen’saarai, the man descends from a long, yet nearly extinct line of valiant disciples that are reputed to have near legendary status for their peerless ability to wield lightsabers in battle — almost to the point of uncanny innateness. Having focused the majority of his training upon bladework, early on in his career Kai had relatively little development within the study of the mysteries of the force by comparison to most other cults. Instead diverted to learning a refined arrangement of the seven traditional forms, he ultimately selected Juyo as his preferred style. Ultimately resulting in his blade weaving into becoming highly unpolished, disturbingly chaotic, and vicious, Kai is frequently mistaken as an indignant individual that holds no respect of his antecedents, and stands on the shoulders of giants. An accurate observation could not be further from the truth, as he is highly attuned to his personal weapons and has become an adept wielder of lightsabers that strives to walk the path between light and darkness, thus honoring his predecessors.

While his career has been short by most standards, Kai has been forged through a trial by fire, learning through brutal consequences that one does not always succeed in the tasks asked of them. A result in his inability of thinking passively, whilst on the defense, it created a gaping void that became forcibly crammed with hyper-aggressive tendencies, rapid flourishes, and strong-armed hoodwinking to act as a makeshift security. Clumsy, and often getting by through sheer dumb luck at first, the adept favors swift, unpredictable footwork over acrobatic maneuvers — a contrast to the majority of opponents he has encountered over the years. A masterful wielder of the Trakata techniques, he has recently begun development of his own specialization in hopes to create a defensive saberform that suits his style.

Upon acknowledging that his strengths lie within wielding raw and blindingly fast movement, Kai has begun what is considered the second step towards the Defender Trials, after having drawn up schematics for his armor. Originating from its strengths in Makashi and Jar’Kai, the twilight-walker has fumbled his way into founding Morut Cabur — Mando’a for Guardian’s Stronghold. Half saberform, half state of mind, this art is erratic and painstakingly exhaustive, requiring immense concentration to maintain for anything longer than a moderate period of time.

Through profoundly enhancing his own agility, quickness, and senses via the force Morut Cabur shines best in close-quartered engagements, where unforeseen circumstances arise that either cause a shift in balance, or overwhelm him in sheer numbers. All but a blur in sudden movements, strikes and ripostes come rapidly through a high energy, trance-like state in which Kai effectively melds into becoming one with his surroundings. When employed in bursts, it works best when able to dispatch threats prior to them being able to do any real damage. If incapable of doing so, the follow up result is an attempt to cripple opponents, leaving them either unable to fight or retreat before they become outmaneuvered.

Stunning as it might be to witness, Morut Cabur is not without its problems. Tiresome in nature, without substantial endurance training, the practitioner is required to switch into alternate forms, or rely upon other methods to rejuvenate consumed energy — something that comes up quickly without warning. Though capable in deflecting blaster fire to a respectable degree, it suffers in long-ranged engagements and heavily prefers areas in which the environment can be used to create obstacles or deterrents for opponents. Adding yet another difficulty, this art relies upon the wielding of not one, not two, but three weapons! A single blade in one hand, and a saberstaff in the other, proficiency in engaging and disengaging at opportune moments is a feat that can determine the different between parrying a strike, impaling a rear assailant, or accidentally dismembering oneself. Even worse, should the immense concentrative trance be broken, the results are potentially catastrophic, and can send the practitioner spiraling out of control, thus leaving them wide open for attack.

Not for the faint of heart, or those unwilling to dedicate themselves to routine practice, Morut Cabur holds an unmatched precedent for deceiving others, and employing it to the wielder’s advantage. If one is able to catch another off guard, it can prove a crucially defining moment in a duel, leaving just a wide enough opening to overwhelm the target. Lastly, despite what its name suggests, and its defensive purpose, it is an undeniably aggressive form that does not match well with passive, or slow-to-engage personalities.

Talents
As he is unable to rely on the force to solve all of the obstacles that he will face in life, Kai has been compelled to learn the skills that he will require to succeed along his path. Though it is very much a slow progress, compared to those that dedicate their lives to the martial and practical talents, he has at least demonstrated some proficiency in these arts. Thus far, of note the man has proven to be a respectable pilot for his own vessel (albeit struggling with others), and more than capable in designing his own equipment. Given his Jen’saarai heritage…this shouldn’t be much of a surprise to others, if they learn of his origins. Of comedic note — his marksmanship is utterly abysmal, despite the fact that he once had a favorite pistol.

EQUIPMENT

Considering the fact Kai has already faced monumental undertakings, and was for a point in his life on the run constantly, the apprentice has found relatively little time to explore the opportunities of developing a personal, and unique set of armor for himself. Expected by tradition of all Jen’saarai, prior to facing their Defender trials, the bloke has only managed to draft an intricate collection of schematics thus far.

When constructed, it will serve underneath a number of purposes including environmental containment, durable combat protection, and utility functions assigned to the modules laid throughout the pieces. Not unlike a set of Mandalorian equipment, the design begins to show its differences upon witnessing the elegant appearance and materials it is composed of. The innermost layer being that of Beskar, and shielded upon the exterior by Cortosis, it is expected to deliver enough protection from both lightsaber and conventional weapons. This said, because of the weight involved and his need for agility throughout his forms, Kai has begun to consider alternative materials that provide similar characteristics.

Lightsabers
PiShjKC.png

In extensive contrast to the attention deserving of his armor, a vast amount of detail was placed into designing Kai’s lightsabers in both aesthetic and practical interests. Requiring an intimidating amount of forethought prior to their creation, he spent nearly a year collecting the necessary materials before he was satisfied that each would deliver the versatility that he desired. Time that should have been spent on his armor was placed here, and thus made him a notable outlier in what is expected of apprentices in his order. Still, as all Jen’saarai place a heavy focus upon the equipment they wield, the pieces are said to reflect upon the qualities of the individual that made them.

As his foremost project to date, the effort required to complete these has been considered to surpass that of his peers in the order, due to the fact that standardized designs have seem to become the norm. Unfortunately, his personal saberform effectively requires the use of weapons intentionally crafted specifically for the purpose of blending in seamlessly, rather than being adapted to do so.

Each hilt is composed of a purified vanadium alloy, accented with diatium brass that safeguards the power core and mitigates the majority of weathering derived from daily usage or exposure to the elements. Oddly enough, despite the rudimentary purpose of the diatium in the design, it holds a hidden side effect of permitting him to toggle the activation of the blade far more quickly than traditional sabers. Within the interior shaft a focusing lense crafted from a Krayt Dragon Pearl acts as both a magnifying agent, and one that acts as a personal sentimental value reflecting upon the first time he encountered the beast.

While they mirror each other on the exterior, save the focusing lense the internals of these weapons vary greatly. His rightmost saber holds a Lorridian gemstone, which emits a transparent silver core shrouded by a glow that produces an aquamarine hint which eventually transitions to an amethyst one near the type. It is unknown which component caused this effect, or if it is simply a composite result. It is considered his blade of choice, due to the fact that it rests ‘neutrally’.

Opposite of its sister, and frequently hidden on his person, the other saber is considered to be far more vicious. Powered by a Lignan crystal, it is noted to have a blade that burns intimidatingly hot, and is capable of cutting through metals far more easily, and quickly, than traditional crystals. Emitting a warm imperial topaz at its core, the blade itself is guarded closely by a volatile vermillion accent.

Nestled within the pommel of each saber rests a mag-lock directly beneath the power cells, which permit them to be united into a lightsaber staff, should the need arise. As their power cores work together under this circumstance, Kai is able to use the weapon as a buffer that permits the blades to be utilized in extreme weather conditions. Additionally, the additional energy can be utilized underneath the tuning dials to harness a dual-phase unit within the recesses of the crystal chambers.

Ship
TPX5G9o.jpg

The Defender’s Errant is a uniquely modified variant of a ship produced in limited production, specifically for the Jen’saarai. Created with the intent of providing expedient transport underneath a variety of manifests, her capabilities and versatility are only overshadowed by the sheer cost of which the craft itself represents. Enough to finance the purchase of several smaller vessels, her key marketing feature is the ability to be customized relatively easily…if you have the resources and money to do so.

Boasting enough facilities to act independently up to several months, without restock, this class of ship rests upon the point of where corvettes transition into frigates in size. Several decks run the length of the ship, with the innermost three spreading into the ‘wings’, where the nacelles and majority of the weapons hardpoints rest. Majestically built, the ship has a demanding upkeep for her polished aesthetic, however makes up for it in the fact she boasts enormous free space on the interior, due in fact that the components that power the ship are densely packed. Two escape pods rest within the ‘wings’ of the vessel, immediately adjacent to the cargo bays stationed there, all of a few meters from the gunnery chambers that provide the ship a means of self-defense.

Commanding the respect of those around her, the Defender’s Errant was built for the purpose of acting as an emissary vessel that could permit the continuation of routine duties whilst in flight. Along the second and third decks rest a workshop, medical bay, droid bay, sleeping quarters, and a lounge that is capable of seconding as a briefing room, should the need arise. Unfortunately, despite what her outward appearance might suggest, luxury amenities are virtually non-existent aboard the ship, leaving passengers and crew members to provide their own solutions.

Whilst capable of breakneck speeds, compared to other vessels of the same class range, the vessel suffers dearly in the maneuverability department — something that can be shocking to most, considering the potent thrusters that line the body of the ship. Nigh-entirely incapable of evading smaller craft, the voyager is reliant on her dual prismatic shield generators and capacitor to provide defense. Taken into account during the design, the ship is more than capable of taking a beating, and each of the two capacitors holds enough energy to rejuvenate one shield facing. The downside comes in the fact that if depleted entirely…her shield regeneration speeds leave something to be desired. Heavily so. With only standard armor, once this happens, the crew must rely upon the installed weaponry for point-defense, or the Starsword, a single heavy fighter that is docked underneath the ship on the lowermost deck.

Further considering her weak points, the rate of which the Defender’s Errant drains energy is utterly staggering. For this purpose, just to keep her operating, a ramscoop was installed along the spine of the ship to collect fuel from nebulas and stars. Though capable of ‘rescuing’ the ship in a pinch, it takes a considerable time period for her to ‘fill up the tank’. After nearly twelve years of operation, her current condition has fallen by the wayside, leading to the need for a serious refit — an opportunity Kai is unable to afford in the slightest at the moment.

Why thank you! I rather enjoy details. I'll probably be cranking out more as he develops, and the story unfolds!

I absolutely love this character. So much detail and thorough description, and effort, put into this. I don't think I've seen him in action yet, but I really look forward to the day that I do.

These two definitely need to cross paths at some point down the road.
I believe they're really the only two true Jen'saarai on site that are visible to some extent.

I'm down with that idea. A bit busy over the next day or two, but should definitely be free to brainstorm and toss ideas back and forth. I have a few of my own, though they aren't immediately connected to their order. If you have Skype or would prefer over PM that might be the best place!
