- Composite Blade: The Fire Ryyk is largely made out of phrik, making it exceptionally light weight and lightsaber resistant, except for a hollow, center spine made out of hadrium which branches out to several places on the cutting edge and the center spine. The heat resistant nature of hadrium is largely able to allow the weapon to live up to its name.
- Fire Blade: The hollow hadrium spine is usually filled with thermite. A striker mechanism at the base of the hilt can ignite this thermite, allowing the blade to rapidly become very hot depending on how much thermite is ignited. Visually, the blade begins to a glow a cherry red and flames erupt out of the cutting edges. While the flames themselves rarely hurt anyone, the blade itself becomes extremely hot, allowing it to slice through many materials more easily and capable of causing severe thermal injuries to most organics. It can also be used as a survival tool to start camp fires or illuminate dark areas like a primitive torch.
- Ceremonial Weapon: As the name suggests, this Ryyk Blade has been specifically designed for use in ceremonies as shown by the elegant hilt with its polished metal, engraving, and carefully spaced leather spacers. The extensive use of Phrik within this blade actually makes it exceedingly light for a Ryyk blade (Ryyk blades are notoriously heavy), allowing them to be wielded easily and quickly during dances and mock ritual combats even by fairly weak humans. Wookiees and culturally informed beings usually recognize the design mottifs as belonging specifically to Kachirho Village and understand that such blades are only given by the village to close friends and allies.
- Survival Tool: A Ryyk is not only a weapon, but a reasonably useful tool, capable of being used as machete to cut down foliage or batton timber. The striker mechanism built into the hilt can also be used to start camp fires. The synthetic crystal embedded in the weapon's pommel can also be used as a replacement lightsaber crystal by jedi in an emergency in case their's is damaged or lost.
- Light Weight: For a Ryyk blade, these weapons are fairly lightweight, making them easily handled by most humanoids. They are fairly fast on the attack, as well as easily worn on a belt.
- Short Reach: Compared to swords and most full sized melee weapons, the Fire Ryyks have fairly short blades and consequently short reach. Unlike some daggers, their geometry is not conductive to throwing either.
As part of the Silver Jedi Concord Life Day celebration in 874 ABY, Lucerne Personal Defense detailed some of its wookiee work force to make versions of the traditional Fire Ryyks to present as gifts to some attendees of the festivities. These ornate weapons are designed to be used in some traditional dances and in mock ritual combat, but they are also reasonably functional weapons as well, possessing sharp edges and the ability to ignite fires and cause burn injuries. While all are technically unique because of minor geometrical and engraving differences, these Fire Ryyks largely follow the same pattern and possess the same abilities. All weapons were presented at the event in matched pairs, with many sets possessing one blade that was made in the ryyk kerathorr variant.
