Her mother fancied herself a society matron, and pushed her daughter into private and prep schools. During school, Jules took an interest in competitive fencing, and became a world-class competitor. When she was eighteen, she began working with her father on his archaeological digs to finance her education.

This breached some agreement between the Jedi and the university (Julyet's father) where the university would excavate the ruins but leave the most valuable pieces behind for the Jedi. When the Jedi sought to enforce their contract by way of lightsaber, Julyet and her new friend escaped, stealing her father's ship and leaving Rhen Var in the rear view.
