Joining the Muertos

Jason Alers

Sometimes the pay makes the trouble go away!
[member="Jax Vandal"]

5 nights before...

It was another regular day as Jason was living on a civilian space station. It had only been a couple of weeks he had posted his resume for merc jobs. Mysteriously, a holopad marked with the Muertos symbol showed up in Jason's cramp room. In the holopad, a message popped up...

"Jason, we have heard you are in need of work. We can offer a decent salary for your service if you join The Muertos. We are a crime organization and part of the Underworld. There are weapons ready if you join and a cybernetic kit as a bonus. Coordinates are already included in this Holopad."

Presently...

Wishing to accept, Jason took the first shuttle to Coruscant along with his baggage. There was not much in the baggage, just a random lot of clothes. He traveled down on an elevator to level 1313, Jason's holopad showed the route to the Muerto's cantina.

Several armed guards were in front of the cantina and Jason showed them his invitation. One of them let him in and showed Jason the Guavian armory. There, Jason grabbed a new rifle and a cybernetics kit. After a few drinks in the cantina, he received another message on his holopad...

"Good, you have gotten your stuff, meet me 3 blocks down from the cantina."

Jason walked 3 blocks down from the cantina and waited patiently while holding his newly acquired weapons.

Jax waltzed down the street whistling. He was holding a ragged leather sac in his hand, and was looking for his new recruit. The guy came to the hideout and had been shown the Muertos' operation.

"Now time for the real fun", Jax thought. He spotted Jason and slipped behind him, with a quick strike he knocked the recruit out. He slipped the bag over his head and began dragging him back to the cantina. Everyone looked away knowing the consequences of getting involved in Muertos business.

Jason began to wake up. He couldn't see anything and all he could hear was a lighter click.

Jason woke up and was feeling very queasy. He looked up and screamed...

"What the hell happened! Who are you motherkarking pieces of dwang? I will kill you!"

He had no ideas what was happening and still couldn't see clearly. His vision was partially blurred by the hit and waking up. Jason couldn't feel for his rifles.

A voice came from the darkness. "You've been making friends Jason. Me and your friends don't get along very well kid." The smell of a deathstick wafted into the air. "I need something from you. You need to tell me everything you know about the Muertos cantina. Needless to say, things are gonna start getting a lot less civil if you don't answer my questions."

Jason was still very unaware what was happening and did not know who the voice was...

"I'm just a farking recruit! I don't know anything, all they did was offer me a work position! I swear that's all I know!"

A quiet pop of a lid coming off of something was the only audible response. A harsh smelling liquid began spilling onto Jason. It was fuel! It started flowing down his face and soaking his clothes.

"That's fine by me kid. If you're willing to die for those new friends of yours, well I guess it's my job to oblige you." A full-hearted laugh broke out. "What's wrong kid you look cold. I think I might have something for that." The laugh continued louder now, as a lighter clicked.

Jason smelled the heavy fuel on his body, one small spark would set him up in flames. He was unable to do anything and was panicking. Again, Jason tried to reach for a weapon or anything but couldn't find it. He screamed...

"Please! I'll do anything you want just don't farking kill me! I don't have any information on the Muertos but I can do other stuff!"

This was not how Jason wanted to die.

"Sure man! Sure! Just let me go and not kill me, please!"

The fear of death forced Jason to start sobbing uncontrollably. He began to regret ever accepting his new job with the Muertos if he was about to be murdered the first day he entered. But the Muertos would kill Jason for betraying them, so he had a plan. As soon as he leaves he would find some mercenaries to escort him far away from this farking place.

"Whatever you want you farking druk!"

"Wrong choice farking snitch." Jason's bag was taken off. Jax was sitting in a chair facing Jason smoking a deathstick. "Looks like you didn't pass the test friend. Normally this is where I light you up for being a rat, but I thought you had potential. Truly i wont enjoy this, but I have to let the men know this is unacceptable. Gotta keep the lights on you know?" With that Jax took a vibroknife and plunged it in the recruit's eye. "This will heal, and you will be fine." Jax spoke calmly, with an airy tone. " Albeit half-blind like yours truly, but if I manage it you can. Needless to say this planet is now off limits to you. If I ever see you around here again you just might lose both eyes." Jax untied Jason and sat back in his chair, vibroknife in hand.

"Arrrrghhh!"

Jason screamed from the pain in his eye and put both hands on it to help deal with the pain. Blood continuously dripped from the eye socket. Jason tried to get up and leave but stumbled and fell. He then asked...

"Which way do I leave?"

Jax watched silently as Muertos enforcers grabbed Jason. They dragged him up the stairs and presumably threw him into the alley.

"He almost made it guys" he said with disappointment.
