GENERAL INFORMATION
Name: Jester Root
Origins: Origins: New Cov
Other Locations: Like Icsebore, Jester Root can be found in many places around the galaxy, though more widespread than it’s much more poisonous counterpart. New Cov is still considered the main exporter of the seeds for this plant though.
Classification: Flower
Average Growth Cycle: It takes one to one and a half standard months to fully grow, and can stay alive for up to a year with proper watering. In the proper environment with plenty of water, Jester Root has been observed living up to 15 years. From the seed that is planted in the proper soil, the massive stem of a Jester Root rises from the ground until it’s at it’s full height. Once there, the dark purple flower blooms around the stem, encircling it with it.
Viability: Due to this plant’s massive size, it needs plenty of sunlight and water to grow happy and healthy. At least a few inches of water every day or so, as well as plenty of sunlight, and the Jester Root will eventually bloom into the massive flower it is. Jester Root can survive in practically any type of soil, and actually survive for at least a full day if removed from it’s original planting ground before eventually dying. It is not encouraged to do this, however, for reasons that will be explained later. Jester Root reproduces by releasing tiny seeds, much like a dandelion, from the holes on it’s stem. This reproductive process is accompanied by the releasing of a large sulfur cloud, which can also be used a defensive mechanism for the plant.
Description: Jester Root definitely has a distinctive look, not only for it’s size, but it’s colorations and how it blooms as well. The central stem is a light green to almost white color, with small holes that the reproductive seeds pop out from, as well as the self defensive sulfur cloud originating from. The flower around the stem is a deep purple, and looks to have an almost leathery feel to the touch.

PHYSICAL INFORMATION
Average Height: 3m to 3.5m in height
Average Length: 1m to 1.2m in length
Color: The stem is a light green to white color, while the flower has a purple coloring to it. The roots of Jester Root have a typical, brownish coloring to them.
Nutritional Value: If the stem of a Jester Root is harvested, it can be sliced up and cooked, typically grilled, to provide a juicy source of protein.
Toxicity: When reproducing, or when the plant feels threatened, Jester Root will release a toxic cloud of sulfur into the air. Small bits of exposure are not inherently dangerous to sentients, but major or prolonged exposure can cause lasting damages to the airways and lungs. When this plant is uprooted, or the stem pulled from it’s base, the entirety of the remaining sulfur that the plant was hoarding gets released into the air, and this can be a deadly effect if one is not careful.
Other Effects: The flower portion of Jester Root, due to it’s purple color, can be ground up to produce a brilliant looking clothing dye. Typically this is not worth the potential sulfur poisoning, however.
Distinctions: Jester Root isn’t really a flower that will blend into a group. It’s massive, has odd and distinctive coloring, and not many plants boast a defensive mechanism like it. Even with the dangers that come from planting one of these, they are seen as intriguing specimens for any brave enough botanist around the galaxy.

Strengths:
Dye producer: Purple, the color of royalty, is the color dye that Jester Root can produce. The dye is much more of an exported product than the flowers themselves.
Jewel of the collection: For any botanist brave enough to take one on, the Jester Root can provide a massive centerpiece to their collection.

Weaknesses:
Treat carefully: Despite producing some beautiful dyes, Jester Root is still a dangerous plant to try and grow, especially if it dies on your watch. The resulting sulfur cloud is enough to do damage to any sentient’s respiratory system.
Lots of upkeep: Jester Root takes a lot of sunlight and water to keep alive. They are not an easy plant to keep alive.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Jester Root has long been one the few flowers that the New Cov Biomolecule Corporation has felt safe exporting from New Cov. Typically that means that the flower portion is being exported, not the entire root and flower, but there have been plenty of exceptions on that part as well. Caer Badru does not have Jester Root plant actually planted, but Shamira Kaurto has procured a crate of the flower’s seeds for future study and use. Though the dangers that come with planting one of these flowers probably overrule any chance of them being planted on Ryloth in the future.
