SPECIAL FEATURES:
  • Specially-designed cooling system prevents overheating and mitigates weapon’s signature.
  • Able to deliver a stunningly lethal combination of EMP/Ion, Thermal, and Kinetic damage against their targets.
  • Able to switch between staggered and simultaneous fire, depending on situation, to allow more rapid firing in exchange for lessened potency or simultaneous firing to increased damage.
STRENGTHS:
  • Delivering a potent three-fold damage combination (i.e. EMP/Ion, Thermal, and Kinetic damage), the Harlequin offers the means to hammer enemies into submission or else reduce them to smoldering ruins.
  • Able to be shifted from staggered fire for more sustained relentless targeting or else used in concert to launch devastating synchronized barrages against targets, the Jester is a potentially terrifying weapon to find one’s self pitted against.
  • Potent combination of range and stopping power can yield considerable effect against enemies beyond that of many other more conventional starfighter weapons.
  • Effectively unlimited munitions capacity derives from the weapons’ being powered directly from the ship’s reactor system.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Requires immense power output, and should ships using them suffer damage to their power systems or lose output levels in the course of combat, these weapons rapidly lose their range and effectiveness.
  • Firing rate is just average, and even when switched to staggered fire, the weapons simply can’t deliver rapid fire capabilities due to the power needed to build up the charge behind its powerful potential damage effects.
  • Fixed-position weapons cannot be turned or aimed separately from the vessel they’re mounted on, limiting their field of fire capabilities significantly.
DESCRIPTION:

A scaled-back version of its larger and significantly more powerful cousin, the Harlequin Cannon, the Jester is a potent armament in its own right. Mounted in fixed position, usually forward, the Jesters are capable of yielding potentially significant three-fold damage against targets (e.g. EMP/Ion, thermal, and kinetic damage types). However, due to their lessened size and the power needed to deliver these powerful bursts, the Jesters’ firing rate is only average and incapable of rapid fire settings, even when staggered. Likewise, effective range is lowered from that of the Harlequin to long-range only, requiring ships to come closer to deliver their strike, placing them at greater vulnerability and exposure to enemy weapons. Finally, due to their scaled-down potency, they just don’t pack the same punch against larger and more heavily-shield targets as their cousins, but can still deliver a powerful blast against smaller targets, having the potential to quickly wear down shields and deal considerable damage, possibly even disabling or destroying them with only one or two rounds if stuck in the proper location based upon tests made against starfighter-sized asteroids.
