Even Jarek's own parents wouldn't have remembered him beyond the need to fill their pantry...or so the joke went...when he crossed people's minds. Which wasn't often.
There weren't many Firrerreo on Takodana when Jarek was growing up. While the family never hid who they were, neither did they flaunt their differences, and as such tended to blend into the periphery. That carried into school, where the attendance rolls were the primary reason the teachers knew him, and further into adulthood.
Upon enlisting in the Galactic Alliance military, Jarek continued not standing out. Most evaluations carried the tone of "acceptable", "passable", and sometimes "satisfactory". He achieved a marksman rating in near every ranged weapon category. Only one of the instructors saw how carefully-curated this mere adequacy was, but oddly instead of forcing the issue in public the man engaged him in "tutoring" sessions where he was able to push his limits while away from attentive eyes. These sessions never made it onto his transcripts, but some comments were made between friends, and certain unseen officers started watching.
In one of the many medical exams the training camp put him through, his midichlorian count was found to be slightly above normal ranges. The matter was referred to the Jedi liaison, who reviewed the case and broke the news to the trainee. He was indeed Force-sensitive, but at such a low level that it would never be possible to become a Jedi. After a file transfer containing some exercises to maintain self-control, the liaison departed, satisfied with the stoicism displayed by the no-doubt disappointed soldier who's name had already been forgotten.
Graduation came and went, and after enough of a rotation with the general military to not be flagged Jarek was quietly transferred. His new squad was seconded to Galactic Alliance Intelligence, where they were taught how to fade into the background and their general skill sets expanded and improved. He could fly or crew various types of ships, but anything more than a rookie pilot would frag him every time. Hacking, explosives, electronics, unarmed combat...functional with proven results, but true specialists would have cringed to see the work. His best skills tended towards the more physical, and quite simply the more violent. He was deployed accordingly. His heritage proved useful, notably his accent. Takodana connected the Inner and Outer Rims...when he spoke people heard their people, and sometimes even their own accent to varying degrees. Mission records were classified, official records a cover-up. The chronicles reinforced the story: acceptable, boring, not extraordinary.
With the fall of the Galactic Alliance, the unobtrusive soldier found himself in need of income and shelter...and with a marketable skill set.
