Janus Viminal

NAME: Janus Viminal

FACTION: Order of the Grey

RANK: Apprentice member

SPECIES: Twi'lek

AGE: 29

SEX: Male

HEIGHT: 5' 11"

WEIGHT: 150 lbs

EYES: Green

HAIR: Due to his Twi'lek parentage, Janus is completely devoid of any hair.

SKIN: Blue

FORCE SENSITIVE:

While he currently has learned next to no mastery over his Force capabilities, Janus is sensitive to the Force and is surprisingly respectful of it for someone who lacks appropriate training. Currently he has only just begun to seriously study this aspect of himself, and he has few abilities in this respect. Nevertheless, he has at least learned how to heal and correct certain maladies.

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES :

+ Willingness to Learn: While many people might have difficulty with patience and want to take the quick and easy way out of any situation, Janus has come to accept that hard work is the only way to achieve anything worth really achieving.

He is willing to learn and hardworking, and doesn't rush through things even when he doesn't understand them and wants to move on. This is of particular importance considering the fact that he realizes that he had a great deal left to learn about himself and the greater world he stepped into.

+ Self-Defense: As a consequence of his previous occupation, Janus had to learn how to defend himself from a young age. Even if he has to rely on physical skills and prowess along with technique as opposed to Force powers or unique technology, he's quite capable in a fight. He has a substantial amount of training in the use of an electrostaff, which he employed while watching over his charges when he was still in domestic servitude. He's had to rough up bounty hunters and thugs, so he's no stranger to its usefulness.

+ Natural Resistance to Toxic Chemicals: Twi'lek society originally evolved on a planet that forced them to have an extremely omnivorous diet. Since he possesses a Twi'lek constitution as well as multiple stomachs, he has the ability to process and digest many chemicals that would otherwise harm or kill other people.

To this end he enjoys eating some foods that would be quite exotic to other individuals outside of his own species, but it's been quite useful considering there were several groups who had tried to sneak poison into his meals.

- Distrustful of Technological Advances: Janus tends to appreciate what works, and if something is old but works well then that will be the technique he uses even if there is an allegedly better one available. This often puts him at odds with new equipment, and he even seems to have a phobia of certain technologies.

He is especially distrustful of small spacecraft with pressurized cabins that require no spacesuits, such as a Z-95 Headhunter or Incom X-Wing. While this might have made him quite proficient at EVA spacewalks, he's not setting foot into a craft he feels will get 'one small micrometeoroid puncture and depressurize,' and he tends to consider these flying coffins.

- Sensitive Tentacles: His brain-tails are extremely sensitive, as they are with many Twi'leks. These lekku are highly advanced organs that are used for communication as well as some aspects of his cognitive function. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that his brain very physically extended down into them, so they're understandably quite sensitive.

Someone wishing to cause him a great deal of pain, or wanting to play a particularly cruel prank, might tug on them, hold onto them or worse. Doing so would create a serious amount of discomfort, and having one removed would seriously alter his perception of the world around him.

- Past that Could Catch Up with Him: Having previously served as a majordomo and a gentleman-bodyguard for individuals who were involved in criminal enterprises, there are people who perceive Janus as a security risk. Should the tides of fortune turn against the individuals that used to employ him there might be some that wish to track him down and dispose of him, though Janus himself insists that he never actually did anything wrong.

APPEARANCE:

As a Twi'lek, Janus has a prominent blue hue to his skin that's quite brilliantly colored when compared to members of other species. Whereas hair might jut back from the heads of others, he has two long lekku tails that jut back from his head.

Both of these two head tails have a dark contrasting patterned tattooed in the sides of them that indicates a clan affiliation, though it's done in a manner that might otherwise look as though it were part of a natural coloration.

Green eyes are perhaps as prominent and striking as the tone of his skin, as is the golden captive bead ring that encircles his bottom lip in another indication of his clan membership.

Janus is well known for wearing notable headdresses, though these are always of a traditional design. Twi'leks who were in forced servitude are sometimes required to wear binding headdresses, but he would never allow himself to stoop so low. Each of his are comfortable to wear and don't restrict the motion of his lekku.

He often favors earth tones, and tends to wear Shata leather pants with cream-colored boots. His favorite color is silver, and despite the earthy colors he usually wears, Janus is almost never seen without a metallic silver sun shawl. This choice of garment is a favorite because of the fact that he grew up on a barren planet and needed ready protection from the harsh rays of the sun.

BIOGRAPHY:

Being born on Fornax is an unusual twist of fate, as the planet is exceptionally barren but also not located in the distant Outer Rim section. While it might have been famous for the fact that it attracted hotshot pilots who had wanted to fly through the ring structures in orbit of it, Fornax had also tended to attract an interesting crowd of people that included gangsters as well as legitimate business ventures.

It was an uneasy alliance, and one that was born out of necessity. As long as no one stepped on anyone's toes, things could continue on as normal, but the moment things smelled fishy someone would end up face down on the floor. It was far more civilized than the way business was done on Outer Rim worlds, but at the same time it was also in some ways more dangerous since those who didn't know the correct manner of doing business would often end up dead.

Upon reaching formal adulthood at age 16 and going through the ceremony that marks the transition into maturity for his people, Janus sought a way to improve his lot on this most unusual world. He ended up taking on a job as a majordomo for a couple of the gangsters in the area. While there is a persisting and annoying stereotype of Twi'lek individuals as slaves, Janus was never a slave.

He took pride in the fact that he was a hired trusted servant who managed appointments, looked after households and acted as a driver in an ancient SoroSuub X-34 Landspeeder that he kept in pique condition. Learning an extensive set of skills with an electrostaff, he acted as a gentleman bodyguard in an often hazardous setting that required elegance in addition to swift defensive action and skill. Sometimes he would find himself guarding a skiff, accompanying a VIP onboard a sail barge, taking out some unsavory element or taking care of any of a number of other tasks that required professional acumen alongside martial ability.

Ironically, Janus never learned to speak his native language. Huttese was considerably more important where he lived, and he continues to use it in his daily business. As a result he often has shades of an exotic warm accent when he speaks Basic.

Over time he had been collecting components from the salvage yards that were at one of the spaceports he served at on Fornax. There was never any shortage of spare parts and damaged ships considering how many pilots had attempted to fly through the rings throughout history. Regardless, he'd eventually found most of a busted up TIE Defender that he slowly reconstructed over time with parts that he reconstructed and remanufactured.

The small fighter ship was quite useful as a personal transport for going about his duties. Allegedly once he was visited in a dream by the Force ghost of the historical owner of the ship - an Imperial Knight who lived centuries ago and fought to preserve justice in the galaxy. The Knight in question apparently told Janus that he was to take a step into a much larger world, and make something of himself far more than a majordomo to criminals.

Rather than continue on this path, he was supposed to turn away from those he served and seek out someone who could teach him to use the Force appropriately. Regardless of whether the story is apocryphal or not, Janus took what he had and struck off to find an order that would train him.

SHIP:

Janus has come into possession of a Sienar Fleet Systems TIE Defender with an equipped hyperdrive and the original stock style of weapons that the vessel was outfitted with when she was new. Despite the mismatched components that he salvaged from the yards on Fornax, Janus actually did a good job with the restoration and has her working quite well.

He personally refers to her as Igua-jaw after the name of a carnivorous organism native to the swamps of the planet Dagobah. While it's rather unusual to name such a small ship, Janus believes that he was told that was the name of his vessel when the Knight who visited him owned her. Whether the story is true is unimportant considering that he acts on it as though it were.
