For the first time in a long time Valaine was given a sense of freedom, a chance to strike out a little on her own, to accomplish something of her own initiative. Naturally it was all in the name of those she now served, and no matter how far she went she'd always feel the metaphorical chains tightening around her neck to remind her where she was bound to return to eventually. But perhaps this time she could prove herself to be a little more capable than expected, and not only do a little something for her Mistress, but also someone else.

Thankfully the journey from Coruscant to Naboo had been a relatively uneventful one, and now she found herself in the realms of the High Republic. Somehow, wherever due to her inherent street smarts from her time growing up on Jutrand or blind luck, it didn't matter what kind of city Valaine ended up in; she'd always manage to find the darker parts of it. All cities, no matter how grand and tall, cast a shadow beneath them, and typically the taller they were then the deeper that shadow went.

She had lingered within the city for a while and listening in the right places at the right times had given her an opportunity to find something of worth. There was a reclusive and unlicensed scientist somewhere within the shadows of the city, performing profane experiments with blood and flesh on the unwilling. For a moment the young Sangnir had considered if it was someone she knew, but surely the last place she would be was in the sphere of influence of the High Republic...

Valaine had learnt that a recent string of abductions and reports of missing people had all come from the same general area, and so she had decided that rather than try to find this scientist herself it'd be faster to simply have her brought to them. With that in mind she set herself up as the bait...

Clothed in rather loose casual attire consisting of a hooded grey jacket that was a little too big for her she waited and wandered the parts of the city that had been cited as the locations of the abductions taking place. It didn't take long for her plan to come to fruition.

Her sight, which seemed tired but keen, was looking for heat; one of the few gifts her condition granted her, so it came as some surprise to her when she was confronted by a pair of robed and hooded armed droids that stood tall above her that seemed to have their heat signatures masked. Both droids had concealed blasters beneath the ragged fabrics that covered them and they made them clear to see as they pointed them subtly towards Valaine who stood and played the part of a shocked stranger, slowly raising her arms in concern.

The only issue with her plan of course was the chance that these mercenary droids were simply not related to the scientist at all, and that she was about to be mugged by an entirely different group of criminals. Regardless it was a chance she was going to take, she just hoped they'd at least let her come willingly and not just knock her out...

Back when Voli regularly wrote in her Holoblog, would often read articles about how the first battle would be a test of a soldier's mental fortitude. Often times, a battle would break a soldier's mind rendering them in a catatonic state or they become hardened, more accustomed to take on their faction's enemies. At just 16 years old, Voli experienced her first battle, at first she thought that all the scary, gory Holofilms she watched would desensitize her to the death and blood of war. However. as soon as Voli sensed the death of thousands of innocents and the blaster bolts whizzing past her, she realized the extreme violence she saw on the big screen couldn't prepare for the chaotic nightmare that was war.

Master Dreidi Xeraic Dreidi Xeraic would always tell Voli to steel her mind during conflict, but all the training and mediation in the world doesn't prepare one for all the screaming and blood. Dreidi had many battles and duels under her belt and Voli wondered how she was able to hold it together especially when they faced Isur Isur in their attempt to escort fleeing civilians. "Astoundingly I was shocked that I lasted an hour," Voli thought as she aimlessly walked through the rolling grassy plains. "Never mind a day."

Voli spent the next few days trying to process the battle against the Black Sun. She felt conflicted on one hand, she was happy that she helped fight off the thugs who tried to kill the people. On the other hand, so much death that she seen and felt, it made Voli nauseous to think about it. "I just wished that I could talk to Master about it." Voli thought as she listened to music that was playing in her holopods at full blast.

As Voli continued to walk, she sensed a disturbance in the Force, the Padawan's hand instinctively went to her training saber. Frowning, Voli walked over the hill and saw battle droids surrounding a woman around her age. "Hello?" Voli called out to the droids. "I hope I'm not intruding on anything?"

Naturally, there was perhaps a second issue with Valaine's plan, another variable that could go very poorly for her; the presence of a bystander. At the call of hello both the droids and Valaine looked towards Voli - Valaine with a look of concerned surprise and the droids immediately turning to aim their blasters towards the Padawan.

Valaine's grey eyes shifted towards the droids, were they going to fire? Naturally the easiest thing to do was to let them so that she could continue with her plan, but a thought struck her... 'Have you really fallen that far already?'. Despite being an Acolyte of the Sith the young Sangnir had barely been tempered with their doctrine, and so it was her belief that she was about to let an innocent girl, who didn't seem much younger than herself, potentially die.

She wasn't that callous, she'd have to find another way to locate her target.

In a moment that slowed the seconds to minutes she dropped her façade of the helpless damsel and with an alarming amount of speed reached forward to grip the arm of the droid nearest to her, tugging it sharply as both the droids fired their blasters. The first, because of Valaine, missed its shot terrible because of her pull, but the second she couldn't reach and it had fired its blaster directly towards Voli.

With a sudden crunch the sound of shearing metal was heard as Valaine had, somehow, pulled the arm right off the droid she had grabbed. In that moment it would be clear she wasn't a typical human with such strength, but what she did lack was direct combat experience. She expected ripping the arm off to be enough, but this was a droid, not an organic being. The droid had raised its remaining arm high and crashed down its metallic hand onto the space between her neck and shoulder. Despite her strength and agility her bones were still just that, bones, and the impact fractured her collar bone immediately as her eyes widened with pain with a hiss.

The unattended droid, the one that shot its blaster at Voli, would've ignored the conflict right besides it, assured in the success of its companion as it'd continue to fire at the young girl in its sights with deadly precision.

Voli barely had time to place her Holopods in her pocket before the droid opened fire multiple blaster bolts heading towards her direction. Voli quickly unclipped her training saber the green blade activating just in time to bat away the bolts. "I'm getting better at this," Voli thought redirecting the last blaster bolt towards the droid's head causing it to explode like an overcharged light bulb. Voli's sight then turned towards the second Droid who was fighting the dark haired girl who much to Voli's shock ripped the droid's arm from its socket.

"Wow," Voli thought. "Either she's eating her spinach on a daily basis or I'm starting to think there's more to her than meets the eyes."

She didn't sense anything from the girl, she wasn't Force sensitive. Perhaps, she was a near-human. Recognizing that the Droid was undeterred by the girl's attack, Voli's eyes widened with shock and fear when the Droid smashed the girl's collarbone. The Padawan's shock quickly morphed into anger as Voli used the Force pull in the one-armed droid straight onto her Lightsaber. The blade sizzled through the Droid's chest as Voli finished him off with a vertical slice splitting him two.

"Are you all right?!" Voli rushed to girl's aid her hand reaching to her broken collarbone. "Hold still," Voli said deactivating her lightsaber and using the Force to bring the broken bones back together.

The flash and glint of the green saber igniting in her peripheral was noticed, even as her collar bone had been shattered under the force of the droid's blow. Valaine fell back onto the ground as suddenly the droid in front of her was pulled away by the Force, her widened gaze followed it to watch Voli impale it with her saber and then slice it in twain. A green saber? Even amidst the pain Valaine's thoughts went to the fact that she may have just crossed paths with a Jedi...

Then the agony reminded her of her condition as she clenched her jaw and let out a groan of pain as she brought a hand up to her collar bone. To think that she could be so careless in her first encounter like this, she cursed herself silently.

When Voli arrived at her side Valaine's instincts told her to stay away, to not let her near, such was her cautious mentality. But in light of the fact she had no idea how to fix this herself... She did as she was asked and remained still as Voli tended to her injury, which still hurt like hell as she winced and flinched at the pain.

She was glad that at least the bones were aligned together again, it meant that her own regenerative capabilities could now start, albeit slowly, fusing them back together. She wasn't sure how long that'd take, hours or days, she'd never had to regenerate a broken bone before. Her tired eyes shifted up towards the other girl and finally she spoke in her soft, but slightly shaken with pain, tone. "Th-... Thanks..." she muttered.

"I..." she paused as she thought on how to explain why she was in the situation she was in, "I got... lost. I was looking for someone, a scientist, but these two found me instead..." she spoke as she nodded towards the dispatched droids. Her grey eyes shifted back to Voli. "... Who are you? You're a Jedi, right...?" she asked cautiously.

The entire situation was a little humorous to Valaine. She had attacked in the hopes of protecting a stranger, but in the end, it was the stranger that had protected her.

As she continued to inject healing vibrations into the woman’s broken collarbone, Volis violet eyes turned towards the downed droids who attempted to kidnap her. Who were those things? Commando Droids from the Clone Wars? "They definitely didn't live up to the legend if someone like me could take them down." Voli thought.

Voli was thankful that she came in on time listen to the Force healing lesson. She spent the entire night trying to open up her Holocron that she overslept. Voli barely had time to put on her robes to attend the class and she made it with only 30 seconds to spare. The teacher did not tolerate lateness: A Jedi must always be disciplined and arrive on time. It was something Voli managed to learn quickly. "All right," Voli muttered as she felt the collarbone connecting. "Just need to use the Force to seal the crack......."

She allowed the Force to flow through her allowing the light energy to finish reconstructing the bone. "All right Voli," She thought. "Remember anatomy class back in High School. The knee bones connected to the...... something......"

To think she's doing a better job than actual Surgeons who spent a near decade in school.

"Okay!" Voli said. "Healed up! That'll 15,000 credits!"

Voli gave an awkward chuckled. "That was a joke," she said. "And admittedly a bad one. But I'm no Jedi at least not yet. I'm just a Padawan learner. Name's Voli."

She smiled. "Who's this scientist?" She asked. "Why would they be here in Naboo?"

Valaine was surprised to notice that the broken bone hadn't just been re-aligned, but was now actually being mended. Her knowledge of the Force was very small, and so such techniques were entirely unknown to her. But still, she wasn't about to complain about the mending of a bone that would've taken her days to heal by herself.

At least until she heard there was a price. Her brow furrowed in response, but before she could say anything the jest was made clear. She sighed softly and gave her shoulder a light roll to test it, it was still sore, but she could move it just fine. "Oh- Uh... Wow, you just fixed it like that, huh...?" she blinked, looking towards Voli with a searching gaze. A padawan? Then she might be of a similar skill to herself...

"... Thanks again, Voli." she nodded in greeting. "I'm Valaine, and..." she looked to the destroyed droids. She couldn't just tell her that she was hoping they'd bring her to the scientist, that might be a little too suspicious... "I don't really know." she answered, "I'd heard some rumors is all, that potentially this person had the knowledge to help me with something. I've been looking around for clues as to where they might be but..." She hummed softly as she returned her tired gaze to Voli. "I'm starting to think these droids might've had something to do with it?" she feigned ignorance. She knew exactly that the droids had something to do with it, but it seemed easier for her to gently lean into this hunt and drag Voli into it rather than outright state her intentions.

"You haven't heard anything about disappearances and stuff around this area have you? I'm sure with the help of someone like you I could definitely find them faster." she smiled lightly before she stood up to her feet. Valaine was quite a bit taller than Voli, standing at 5'8, and she appeared rather thin and frail; definitely not capable of the strength that she displayed earlier.

When Valaine was astounding by how quickly Voli patched her up, she felt her ears redden. "Ummmm," It was actually the first time Voli applied Force Healing outside of class. She was surprised she didn't do anything drastic like grow another bone or worse yet: Dissipate it. "It's the power of the Force I guess If you focus, you can perform miracles."

With the Force, Voli could get into med school. She could see why Force Sensitives were disliked by many people. "I haven't heard of missing people around Naboo," Voli said her eyebrows knitting into a frown. "I admit I haven't read the holonews about the disappearances."

"Nor have I checked the forums," Voli thought. If there were people missing in Naboo than it's worth investigating.

"We can go to my place," Voli said smiling while she knelt down next to the downed droid. "If the Droid's processor is still intact, then I can communicate with it and see who sent them to kidnap you."

Voli wasn't well versed in Holocomputer programming, but she knew just enough to crack open a Droid processor. She learned it in her Holonet excursions. "Give a moment," Voli activated her Lightsaber decapitating the Droid and placing the head underneath her arm.

"Shall we get going?" Voli smiled deactivating her Lightsaber.

Valaine couldn't help but smirk lightly, miracles huh? "You must've practiced a lot to be able to do that. It's impressive, really." she offered honest praise to Voli for her ability to heal.

She tilted her head lightly at the invitation and then looking to the droid she thought that luck was on her side. At first she was worried the hunt had just hit a dead end, but as fate would have it, the one person she ran into just so happened to be able to do something with the components of the droid. "Tech savvy too?" Valaine asked with a look of surprise, "Are there any skills that you don't have?" she hummed, but then offered a nod in acceptance just before Voli removed the head from the droid.

"Please, lead on." Valaine spoke as she'd follow after Voli. "You ah, live here on Naboo then? It's a very... open place. Nice in a way, I guess, but very exposing." she said, just making some idle talk along the way. She glanced down to Voli's training saber, it seemed rather potent to her and she pondered if the girl hadn't modified it in some fashion. It was certainly stronger than the one she personally carried that was hidden within her clothes.
