It's All About the Ship

Jake listened to his father as he was being taught about the Ship and how to maintain coolant, lubricant and hydrolic fluid levels. "This here is the Hyperdrive, the 500 Series Hyperdrive from Mandal Tech, The fluid levels on this bad boy are critical. Because This is such a powerful Hyperdrive, You have to monitor these levels closely, or risk destroying your ship. Never Jump into hyperspace, while this is damaged. There have been too many different stories of what can happen if you jump while this machinery is damaged. People have been stripped away atom by atom till they were gone, or perhaps transported to a parallel universe." His father stopped probably hoping that he had scared the crap out of his son. Truth be told, you didn't have to check these levels but every month or so. But it was good to scare him about this and make his boy hyper-vigilant about these things.

"I understand that keeping an eye on this is more than a really good Idea." Jake responded Hoping that some day he would have a ship just like his father's.
"Now the thing about this component is you can't use any other special equipment until the power provided by the reactor stabilizes or at least gets to 90% capacity. If you don't wait until then, the power drain will cause the device you are using to work very inefficiently and it wont work very well." Kad looked at his son making sure his boy was listening. Upon seeing his son nodding his head e turned and said lets go to the cockpit and I will show you how it works."
"Ok." Jake said a bit reluctantly, as he didn't like these lectures. Once they got to the cockpit, He jumped into the copilot's seat and pulled up the galaxy map on the navicomputer. This was always one of his favorite things to look at. Seeing so many planets in the whole galaxy, in reach of his fingertips, he quickly asked his father where they were going.
"I will let you pick today" Kad Smiled, knowing that his son would know where the boundaries lay, and where the safe worlds were, after all this was motivation for his son to learn to fly the ship.
"I want to go home. We have been out here in space too long." Jake said indicating Mandalore on the galaxy map. The boy loved his home planet, and so did his father.
"Home it is." Kad said as he showed his son how to key in the coordinates for hyperspace travel and then made the jump to hyperspace.
