SPECIAL FEATURES
Strengths:
  • Thick Hull: The Invincible Class is meant to live up to its name, with durasteel and duranium armor plating all across the face of the hull and alusteel/titanium framing through the ship's skeleton. Because duranium has a high melting point it is layered on top of Durasteel giving some resistance to standard laser fire and explosions, while the reinforcing durasteel behind it braces the duranium layer against slug rounds. An Atmospheric Containment Field also contributes to the Invincible Class refits durability as it acts to prevent depressurization in the event of hull breaches though it does not prevent boarding. In addition, while the hull itself is thick and well plated the Invincible Class's shields are standard.
  • Heavy Firepower: Boasting three Proton-8 Reactors, the primary reason for the Invincible Class's reduced production as a result of their cost, the refit of the ancient Dreadnought Heavy Cruiser design utilizes two of the reactors to run its shields, engines, and other systems. The last reactor dedicates its full output to powering the allotment of turbolaser batteries and artillery cannons running along the ship. As a result each cannon aboard the heavy battlecruiser can maximize their firepower without worry for draining other systems.
Weaknesses:
  • Fat as a Hutt and Sluggish Too: A testament to the rushed refit effort, the Invincible Class Dreadnought Heavy Cruisers rolling off Rendili Stardrive's line use outdated engine technology that leaves them unable to utilize all the power the reactors supply them. Even attempts to construct additional thrusters to enable the battlecruisers some semblance of maneuverability have fallen short due to the budget constraints in the use of Proton-8 Reactors in place of less efficient and powerful variants of hypermatter or solar ionization power plants. Thus because of its slow speed and maneuverability it is unlikely to keep pace with other vessels, and in conjunction with its size leaves the battlecruisers vulnerable to enemy fire.
Description: Originally fielded by the Republic around 3,000 BBY during the 17th Alsakan Conflict on the side of Coruscant, the Invincible Class Dreadnought Heavy Cruiser acted as the primary battlecruiser for the Republic through the New Sith Wars giving it an operational period of nearly two thousand five hundred years. Jointly designed at the time by Vaufthau Shipyards Ltd based on the colossal vessels put forth by Xim the despot and the planet of Alsakan in earlier Conflicts, Rendili Stardrive's battlecruiser would go on to even make appearances during the time of the Galactic Civil War as the Corporate Sector Authority purchased and refitted surviving examples of the Invincible Class for use as pickets in their navy. While heavily outdated by that time, the Invincible Class like many other Rendili designs such as the Hammerhead and Dreadnought Heavy Cruiser was capable of operating effectively once updated with modern systems given the ease to which they allowed crews to maintain and operate them.

With the design being refitted again for modern navies, Rendili Stardrive has outfitted the Invincible Class with more modern systems than ever before at the cost of the design's cheap and mass produced ethic. Utilizing multiple Proton-8 Reactors was the primary culprit in the Invincible Class's reduced production line, as while the advanced hypermatter reactors increased the Invincible's output they were far more expensive than alternative power plants available. So much so that before the redesign of the battlecruiser was completed the budget for modernization ran out before Rendili technicians could move on to incorporate more recent ion engine technology. While engineering teams attempted to correct the fault with additional thrusters for maneuverability the amount allocated for each vessel was inevitably inadequate to make a difference.

Nonetheless, the features of the Invincible Class battlecruisers that were improved were done so immensely. In terms of firepower, the Invincible line effectively acts as a heavy weapons platform as the trio of power plants allows for the battlecruisers to devote an entire Proton-8 Reactor to powering their turbolaser batteries across the ship without draining subsystems powered by the other two. Thus the Invincible Class sits high on the food chain in its ability to brings its guns to bear against hostile capital ships and cruisers, blowing them away in even exchanges with ample coverage due to its cylindrical shape leaving few blindspots to be taken advantage of. When damage does get through, however, it is evident for the battlecruiser's assailants that the line is not called the Invincible Class for nothing. Boasting armor plating consisting of thick durasteel plates layered with duranium alloy, the Invincible Class's hull resists some of the damage presented by turbolaser fire and explosive rounds due to duranium's high temperature point which makes it difficult to shape in the first place. Complimenting the hull's plate is titanium and alusteel beams through the frame forming the vessel's skeleton, supporting the outer hull so that the battlecruiser does not collapse in the event of a hull breach. A contributing affect in such an occurrence though being the Atmospheric Containment Field which activates in the event of depressurization to prevent destabilization, though the field itself does not prevent further damage from enemy fire or boarding parties.

Open to those with the desire and credits to purchase a contract, the Invincible Class is battlefield ready and a proven design across galactic history.

A very reasonable, colorful Destroyer. A few minor points.

1. Please link the manufacturer.
2. A T4 Company is limited to 2000m warships. I realize that 11m is to match canon, but thus the rules.
3. 5800 crew is remarkably low for a large Destroyer. A similarly sized vessel would potentially have a considerable advantage in a boarding action. I would like to see this addressed in some way (the low crew count specifically, no need to use weak to boarding as the result, though it works).

If this sub goes on the backburner until the modification thread gets updated thats fine. As for the crew count I tried to make a stab at it from the books and other ships at the time, but I agree its not really realistic or consistent. I'll change it to something more in line with its size.
