DESCRIPTION

The InterGalactic Banking Clan, better known as the IGBC/IBC, is commerce guild historically known for its range of financial services like banking, loans, investments, etc. Less known, but equally important operations include its work in private security and vehicle manufacturing, born out of its infamous Collections and Securities Division and the Lotran Guard. It is neutral in operation, providing its services and products to all those willing who can afford it, but to cross the IGBC is to sign one's death warrant in both the financial and literal sense.

The IGBC originated on Muunilinst as a commerce guild created to consolidate the power of the Council of the Banking Clans and other banking powers spread across the galaxy. Each power was already influential on their own, but together under one roof, the united banks were almost able to exert a crushing monopoly on the financial world for millennia, controlling the destinies of entire planets and intergalactic states by means of foreign investment and debt control. It created its own paramilitary organization - the CESD - to protect its assets to ensure that all borrowers paid up on their loans and dues, even if it meant total regime change. From the CESD rose a highly profitable side business of providing private security and producing its own line of combat vehicles.

Throughout the ages, as various powers rose and fell, the IGBC would maintain its wealth and influence and would reach the height of its power during the golden age of the galaxy during the early 400s. However, like many other governments and organizations, it would see much of its fortunes disappear with the outbreak of the Gulag Plague, throwing the volatile financial world up into chaos. Through much of the early part of the dark ages, the IGBC would limp along as it was cut off from many of its old customer bases, but over time, it would gradually reconnect with them as conditions stabilized within the galaxy. By the end of the dark ages, it would reemerge as an important player in the financial world, but in this era, it would face fierce competition from new rivals that had sprung up in other corners of the galaxy.

As the then Muunilist based corporation continued to work on regrowing its operations, the planet would come under constant attack by various groups desiring its riches. Gradually, operations would be moved to satellite facilities within the Core or other well-defended systems across the galaxy. The final straw would be a large-scale raid that resulted in crippling levels of destruction for the Muuns that brought about a small recession for the local economy. It was shortly after this time, that the headquarters was moved to Kiribian Systems Union, a major financial hub based along the northern run of Hydian Way, fielding one the of the single largest and advanced militaries in the northwest quadrant of the galaxy.

From a much more secure and stable location, the IGBC continued on its quest for dominance of the financial sector once more. Reconstruction efforts within the Core regions, and new development projects in the Outer Rim, Unknown Regions, and Wild Space have been a great boon to growth.

RATIONALE

The one responsible for the move of the IGBC's headquarters from Muunilinst to Kiribi was none other that Suravi Teigra herself through direct action and proxy. The move had been years in the making, Suravi having bought herself a seat on the board of directors by buying up stocks over the decades here and there until she had acquired a significant slice of the IGBC for her portfolio. During a shuffle of leadership in the mid 800s, she was able to work on the new wave of executives to gain increasing influence. Behind the scenes, she helped broker a deal between the government of the KSU, the Directorate, and the Council of the Banking Clans to quietly shift their main operations to Kiribi and Mon Cala where they would be better secured. Through the dissolution of the Old GR, and condemnation by her own government for her actions at Cuvacia, Suravi would allow proxies to take over managing her shares in the company under the auspices that they had been seized. In her free time, while hiding away in the Deep Core, she worked aggressively upon expanding her influence within the IGBC until the entire board were essentially her puppets, held under the sway by both political subterfuge and good old Force persuasion. To this day, the IGBC acts to fulfill the will of their hidden master, while totally unaware of Suravi's grip upon them.
