SPECIAL FEATURES
Charged Fire System - If the trigger is held down for a prolonged period, the weapon begins to hum as the next shot is charged. When the trigger is released, the weapon discharges its round into a more powerful single shot which is capable of tearing through armor most commonly found on military vehicles; However the downside is that it depletes any remaining charges in the power-pack.
Strengths:
- Charged Fire System - If the trigger is held down for a prolonged period, the weapon begins to hum as the next shot is charged. When the trigger is released, the weapon discharges its round into a more powerful single shot which is capable of tearing through armor most commonly found on military vehicles; However the downside is that it depletes any remaining charges in the power-pack
- Inertial Dampeners - Due to the powerful recoil that follows firing the weapon, internal dampeners were added; as the prototypes of the weapon were found to easily tear off the operators arm at the shoulder joint (droids included).
- Magnetic Coils - In order to properly propel the rounds fired at the needed speed, the weapon has a series of magnetic coils. These coils are shielded to ensure that the droid operating the weapon is not affected by their powerful magnetic field.
Weaknesses:
- Charged Fire System - Prolonged use or repeated back to back use of this feature can cause extensive damage to the weapon itself. This damage can cause the weapon to either misfire, explode, or discharge randomly due to the stress placed upon the weapon.
- Magnetic Coils - In order to propel the weapon's rounds effectively, a series of powerful magnetic coils run the length of the barrel. While they are shielded, those housings can be damaged by an experienced marksmen. Should the magnetic coils be exposed, they can cause damage to the droid holding the weapon (or those around it) akin to the damage suffered by a computer that's had a magnet passed over it.
- From the Hip - The weapon is wildly inaccurate, and due to this simple problem, it is unreliable if fired from the hip. If the Gauss Rifle was to be fired in such a manner, there is no guarantee that the discharged round would remotely strike an enemy individual in its field of fire.
- Current Interference - As the weapon utilizes a contained magnetic field to fire, this field is at the mercy of conflicting and more powerful fields and can easily be overcome if struck with a more powerful Ion or EMP current, effectively rendering the weapon incapable of operation.
DESCRIPTION
The Contingency Gauss Rifle is designed as a purpose to counter the Force Users often deployed by the organics that their Footman Battledroids may come up against. Additionally, with their capability of firing a concentrated charged burst, a squad of Footman Battledroids (or even a small handful) can hold against all but the heaviest of ground vehicles deployed against their position. Though with all its capabilities it is not without its drawbacks, some of which are major flaws that are worth the risk.
For instance, its relatively low capability in terms of ammunition, as it is only capable of firing seven rounds before requiring it be reloaded. Its special firing system can often cause the weapons to overheat, or otherwise cease functioning (with them outright exploding in more dire circumstances). Though its greatest drawback is that of its very means of propelling its round, the magnetic coils. If they remain shielded the weapon continues to function without a problem; however if those special houses were to be cracked or the magnetic coils otherwise exposed, their magnetic field would cause havoc to the electrical systems within its field (primarily the Footman Battledroids operating the weapon).
