Incom R&D - Modernization Program - Hyperdrive (Corellia)

Alyesa examined the hyperdrive on the table before her and the components that came with it.. The devices were varied in sizes and shapes of course, and technology that was outdated to say the least. Each of these components would need to be re-tooled and calibrated for the Galaxy of today, not the Galaxy of yesterday. Theoretically, she could utilize the same technology in the XJ-7 design, but it wouldn't prove useful.

No, they needed to do more, be able to be faster and calculate routes quicker. They needed to have a better energy output. They needed to be able to withstand long run times and consume less energy. Each unit would have to be worked on individually and she would be able to dissect them and find out where and how she could re-tool each component within to accomplish the means to her end. Hell, she was already well into developing the Starry Night Technology that would coat the damn Stealth-X, why not go even further into the systems.

She would begin here, why? It seemed like the logical place to begin.

The hyperdrive motivator was a tricky module.

A module which would give her hell over time, she spent hours on hours negotiating the wires and different pipelines on the core of the computer. She inputted code and deleted code to optimize the output and negate different routes that had been introduced over the years. Of course, much like anything that had to do with making something of this nature happen, it was a time consuming process and one that she repeated a dozen times over. Why? Because she forgot how many times she ended up crashing the core of the computer before she replaced it. By the time she reached a peak efficiency with the actual module itself, she had replaced the core atleast 16 times and rerouted the pipelines and wiring 37 times and 42 times respectively.

Overall, it was a fairly modest gain to the sensor negation, the cooling and the overall performance of the device. The power usage was down by 4% while the output was up by 7%, a fair trade off considering the amount of times she nearly cooked herself or burnt her fingers from overloading circuits and nearly causing the damned thing to explode.

Engineering was a fun thing, especially when something like this could take your head off.

The weight of the room was something else.

She didn't expect literally it to be a room that had nearly 1.5 the normal gravity of say...Coruscant or Corellia. Of course, one would expect something different when manipulating gravitic modulators. The tinkering and maneuvering of this particular component was something new to her and actually required an additional hand within it. She ended up increasing the output on the component itself by another 15% and reducing power consumption by 7%. In doing so though, she ended up re-designing the damned thing after nearly frying it about seven different times. Old equipment could be something of a bit of a trick to work with.

The readings given by the computer were sufficient enough to say that the system itself had become more than what she had asked, but she had smashed up nearly have of the gravity simulator room in the process. Again, manipulating a gravitic modulator was something new and who knew that the little gryoscope inside could be such a powerful tool to create the field the X-Wing or other types of ships would require in order to escape out of Grav Fields.

Her hands ached and her head was throbbing, so much to do and what seemed like so little time.

Perhaps it was time to take a break? Who really knew how many days she had been down in the Research and Development labs. She didn't, someone said it had been a few weeks since she had been back and forth, she couldn't remember.

She sighed heavily as she left the gravity replication room, just as the engineers were walking out with the newly completed module and the fresh schematics. Two components down. A few more to go. It would be something else when everything was done.

Not only would she be able to sell a whole Stealth system to governments but she'd be able to finally recreate a Stealth-X befitting that of it's origins.

There had to be ways to ensure that the unit also could be broken down to be sold for a higher profit if a government that was allied with the Republic was wanting it. There were always ways of doing things, again, just a matter of ensuring that one put their little print into it. The same would be said about individual pieces sold, nothing would fall into the wrong hands. Everything had a failsafe, explosive or just plain inoperative. It's how this business worked, especially when it came to technology of this kind.

Dampeners that prevented sensor detection were some of the hottest commodities a person could get their hands on and beyond that the new design would be one of the fastest ships on the market.

It would be a simple this for that, trade this for that piece. Re-arrange that piece for that one, or adjust this pipe.

Numbers and schematics ran through her brain as she laid herself down in the cot, pulling the thermblanket over herself. Again, another night down in the bowels of the labs in the Research and Development department, another night away from her comfortable bed.

"So this can be a single unit that is condensed down to just take up the third torpedo launcher as it used to...." She said as she tinkered with the various sensor modules. "Or we can break these components down and sell them as Incom Select products for a high profit?" She questioned as she looked up from toying with the devices. Of course he was referring to the new single unit design of the Advanced Sensor Components.

"Yes ma'am.." Her Chief Engineer spoke up, his facial expression was almost grim and he kept making gestures to reach for her as she toyed with the devices.

Everytime he reached, she would mess with it more, causing him to almost cry out. "Oh calm down, I was the one who retooled these anyways."

"I know ma'am, but we don't have them fully re-calibrated yet to the new design, just please let us finish." He said desperately.

She chuckled softly and moved away from the components and as soon as she did, the man quickly reached over and grabbed up the components he could, his assistants following suit. She sighed heavily and almost rolled her eyes. "The nerve of some people...thank the gods I was never like that..." Or was she? She couldn't really remember, it would have to be something to ask her cousin one day.

It was all about progress...

And right now, it seemed like Incom Corporation was making the progress needed to get ahead of schedule.

Alyesa had been overlooking the numbers from the project itself, and it appeared that reverse engineering the old technology had it's advantages, well considering that Incom Corporation had built it in the first place. She was managing to save atleast 20% overall in the entire project but in this particular area, she was up atleast 7% alone.

It was rather impressive considering this was the first big project she had ever laid her hands on. These countermeasures would be a vital component to the success of the Stealth aspect of the vessel. For now, she would continue to admire both the component numbers and the monetary figures that were presented before her. Giving the Board of Directors news like this was always something pleasant.

Alyesa would nod to each Director in turn, her hands clasped infront of her as she laid out the components list for the newest fighter design. A good portion was marked out in black or listed as classified. She could tell by the looks on their faces that they were displeased to see that this was occuring but there were a select few who understood.

"Lady Organa, do you understand why we're not behind you one-hundred percent on this Project?" An elder man spoke up from the rear of the rectangle table causing Alyesa to perk up and nod slightly. She would nod and motion with her right hand, after unclasping it from her left of course. "Of course, and you must understand that there isn't a single person on this board who I would love to see leave immediately as you supported Incom Corporation during it's horrible tenure under the Confederacy."

The gasps and mutters caused Alyesa to speak up. "I will say this, if any of you would care to look at your shrinking portfolios, I own at best, ninety percent of this company." She placed a finger on her chin and then held it up to the air. "Your shriveling percentages, which makes up roughly 5 percent amongst all of you, is hardly enough to cast a single vote to oust me." She tossed a flimsy sheet down onto the table. "And in violation of company policies and regulations to which you signed and agreed when I purchased the company." She smiled softly. "You're all fired...and the remaining ten percent of your shares now go back into the company, and you forfeit all pay and bonuses for the remainder of the year."

The sound of disgust and anguish filled the room as a rather robust man stood and objected. "This is absurd!" He yelled in her direction. "You can't do this!"

Alyesa heaved a sigh. "I can and I did, for too long has Incom Corporation supported the corrupt and the wicked. Since I took over this company, I've seen profits and margins raised by seventy percent." She looked down at the flimsy. "When you were under Confederacy control, it was down fourty percent? And there were numerous investigations by different Commissions..." She looked up at the robust man. "So either see your way out or I can have the wonderful Protectorate Forces escort you out..." She said with a smile.

The board room had finally cleared, leaving Alyesa alone and wondering what she had gotten herself into.

Her datapad beeped with a message, something about the hyperdrive being close to being ready for testing and they would be able to proceed without her presence...which to Alyesa would be a good thing. At times, she wished she could be there for every stage of the Dark Tide project, but she wasn't able to truly be there for everything.

There were so many things she had to do:

Senator of Alderaan, High Council of Alderaan, Chief Design and Engineer of Incom as well as the Big Boss...good friggin' night.

Sometimes, she wished she had someone to talk to. There once was a guy friend she had, but he was ushered off to some distant planet for something or another. Then there was [member="Marcello Matteo"] who was a friend of her half-brother on Naboo....but she never knew what became of him.

Oiy, life was just complicated.

She really didn't have time for it all for -a life-.

Alyesa would sigh heavily as she watched the tests be conducted from afar, afar being on the other side of the Galaxy.

It wasn't that she wasn't interested in her project, she was just tired and worn out. The engineers were excited at the times that were coming back at short distance ranges and even long-range runs that had been conducted between remote systems.

Indeed, they were very impressive but for Alyesa, it was hard to get excited when so much had been taking it's toll on her emotions.

She needed to focus and get back on track, the project needed her focus, it was almost done.

Finally, the last of the tests had been done.

The first assembly had been completed and the newly minted Stealth-X was infront of her and her Chief Engineers.

There was nothing else for her to do but walk up to it and touch it.

It was a beautiful ship, smooth and deadly looking. Alyesa would inhale deeply and exhale slowly. Finally, after months of long, hard work...Project Dark Tide could rest and these things could be fielded.

She could give the Republic and the Jedi Order and edge they well deserved and needed over the enemy. She didn't have a doubt in her mind, that they would come into good use soon, very soon.
