Intent: to create a jet pack capable of sustained flight

Development Thread: N/A

Manufacturer: Inquisition Industries™ / Inquisition Industries™ Arms

Model: Incitatio jetpack

Affiliation: closed market

Modularity: colour, power cell, exterior plating

Production: mass

Material: quadranium, fusion cell, armorweve, (hafnium, carbon, nitrogen - alloy)

Description: The Incitatio jet pack is a lightweight device that allows the user to move high places, and get around faster by flight. The jet pack makes use of plasma thrusters meaning the weight of liquid fuel isn't necessary. In replacement two fusion power cells are inserted just behind the persons shoulders close to the spine of the device. The pack can be worn as a singular item that wraps under the arms and across the chest or can be attached to an item of armor.

As for the flight the device is capable of twenty minuets bursts, although it is strongly advised not to exceed fifteen minutes due to the fusion cells could get incredibly hot. While the cells are made to withstand massive amounts of heat it doesn't prevent them from becoming unstable. Although safety measures would kick in slowly lowering the output of power making the user have a slow controlled decent.

To compensate for the long duration of heat a special alloy had been created out of hafnium, carbon and nitrogen. The alloy can withstand massive amounts of heat due to it's melting point is little over 4,126°C (7,460°F), two thirds the tempreture of a yellow sun. The alloy it's self is used for the piping for ion thrusters.

This is possible, but I want to point out that ion engine exhaust produce radioactive waste which could be harmful to the operator, any electronics in the area, and poisoning a world's atmosphere; you can read a little bit more about that here. On the bright side, this would work very well in outer space.

[member="Gir Quee"] I saw one earlier that used ion but I'm not quite sure on a type of thrust that doesn't require a liquid fuel unless I can get away without having to mention that part?

There are solid rocket fuels, like those used by the Trade Federation's Vulture Droid starfighters. However, I do not know if they are combustible or would be capable of being powered by a fusion cell, if that's the object of this submission.

You might find some ideas here on alternate drive system ideas.
