In Your Eyes

Voss
Most wouldn't assume Syala to be sightless in passing. After all, she moved just as fluidly, if not more so, than her fellow Jedi, and didn't seem to have any issue with navigation. It was simple for her to make her way around the temple and Voss itself, along with most any planet she set foot on. Even in combat there were few indicators of her disability, though it was something she never truly engaged in unless it became a necessity. The only true sign of her inability to perceive the world through traditional physical sight manifested in her milky white irises and the scarring about her eyes. No longer did the wounds pain her, though the memories of receiving them sometimes did. That was just one more consequence she had learned to deal with as time passed.

Many had wondered why she hadn't opted to repair her sight, given the numerous options available for just that, and her reasoning was rather simple: she didn't have a need to. After all, she managed well enough without it. And, well, she saw it as a sort of penance, and one she would bear until she felt ready to move on and perhaps delve into the world of the seeing once more. Even her Master had suggested cybernetics, but her quiet explanation soothed his concerns. She might not have been able to take in the physical beauty of the planet on which she resided, nor could she perceive any wonders of the galaxy with her own eyes, but their depiction in the Force was far more breathtaking than anything in the physical realm could possibly properly convey.

And now, well, now she would be taking on a student that was blind just as herself, though whether she was born that way or had been rendered sightless through unfortunate circumstances remained to be seen. It wasn't often that her attention turned to new Padawans within the Sanctum, simply because she didn't consider herself an adequate enough teacher for those coming to seek knowledge. A Knight at just sixteen, the Masters within their ranks were capable of instilling far more than she was when it came to any students. However, there were those few that caught her interest specifically, and so agreed to take under her wing should they consent as well. This was one she felt more prepared to guide than many others within the Sanctum, given the similarity of their circumstances.

A simple meeting had been arranged, one that would take place on a lakeside on Voss, the very same one where she believed her true journey as a Jedi had begun. While neither would be capable of looking upon the material beauty of the landscape, there was a wealth to be explored within the ethereal, if one knew how. This was a planet all but bathed in the Light, and to gaze into the depths of it was something nigh impossible to explain to those that hadn't experienced the same themselves. She wanted to show this new student that so much was possible, even without the gift of sight. But for the moment all she did was wait, slowly walking along the lakeside.
