SPECIAL FEATURES
Strengths:
- Alpha Strike: While each turbo laser on the Pilum is turreted, they are ideally situated for firing forward, enabling the frigate to concentrate every single turret on a single point in an "alpha strike" to maximize firepower.
- Speed: The raw speed of the Pilum's three ion engines will allow it to overtake most vessels.
- Reflec Coating: The Pilum's hull features a coat of light-warping, sensor-absorbant reflec. The ship is thus harder to detect both via scanners and the naked eye.
- Hull Integrity: Due to the Pilum's structural design, the ship itself has difficulty taking a punch and well-placed turbolaser blast or proton torpedo could break it in half.
- Aft Coverage: Few weapons are committed to coverage of the Pilum's aft and consequently this area is vulnerable to attack.
The Pilum is a fast attack vessel meant to pursue and destroy. The square hangar doors are on the port and starboard side, in the centerline. The doors themselves are retractable, adding a layer of security.
This vessel is part of the 7th Fleet Initiative, which aims to furnish the Galactic Empire with a series of modern, combat ready warships to better protect Imperial interests.
Perhaps most noticeable about 7th Fleet Initiative designs is their incorporation of SORCE turbolasers, purchased from Silk Holdings. The SORCE model allows ships to consolidate their barrel count while maximizing energy output. Meaning that while 7th Fleet designs might sport fewer guns overall than contemporaries, their broadsides do no less damage.
