Iestyn started his career as more of a statistician. From his University he had a prolific publishing rate and was part of a team with a galactic reputation that look at trends between environment and population change. Since becoming Veronika's mate he's changed his focus significantly so they could work together. Now he carries out more field work with Veronika as they managed to get a joint position with GU.I.D.E.
Scholars are often found working in conjunction with Pathfinders and Starnauts. Their duty is that of collecting and recording the more particulars such as information on local businesses, cultures, sovereign rulers, and peoples to be sent back to the Scribes at HQ. Scholars deal more with the local populace of any given planet than Pathfinders and Starnauts and are seen as emissaries of the Guide. Scholars should be well spoken and have good attention to detail.

APPEARANCE:
Colourful, hue varies based on emotional/hormonal state. Iestyn has a light mottling across his face which spreads over his shoulders and a long stripe down his back. He has several bright stripes across his face. These are echoed by thick stripey bands around his arms, sides and legs. In his usual content state his skin is gold, mottling turquoise with purple stripes. Pink tends to indicate pleasure at meeting a friend or colleague. Brown's and greys are rarely seen and tend to show negative emotions. Deep scarlet is particularly amorous Lovalla and isn't often seen (only one day every four months and they tend to stay out of public view on these days). The hue of his skin is often matches to [member="Veronika Nova"] 's, but his colouring is noticeably less bright.There is a mild level of conscious control over this and those trying to attract a mate are often prone to colourful displays. Mated pairs are almost always the same hue when together. He has a stocky build for a Lovalla. Compared to a human he has broad shoulders, but slender limbs and waist.
BEHAVIOUR:
Iestyn is generally a fairly reserved individual. He uses few words most of the time, preferring to cut to the point of the matter as quickly as possible. His skin tone gives far more away about his emotional state than his language. The exception to this is when he's around his mate, which is most of the time now. He's very physically affectionate and far more conversational around her. Even those familiar with the species find the change startling.
Like many of his people he sees intellectual pursuits as far more worthy than physical. A witty remark is likely to gain his respect, particularly if it takes a few moments to comprehend.
Iestyn is softly spoken and will take his time to form a considered response. He is far more verbose with the written word and can churn out twenty page scientific papers in a good evening.

+ Mated Pair: Empathic Bond with his mate as such as to maintain an awareness of the emotional state of his partner even over short distances.
+ Si'nesh singing: It is said that when they sing, their vocal cords produce pitches specifically designed to disrupt brain waves, instilling a hypnotic compulsion and confusion in even the strongest of sentients; many claimed that much like the Maelibi, their singing was so sweet and the embodiment of music itself, with none being capable of eluding their siren call.
- Lovalla: Has a long reproductive cycles (three years) and are known to only be fertile for one day every four months.
- No Martial Skill: Having evolved without predators they're typically thought of as very placid. They very, very rarely turn to violence with the exception of when a family member is threatened. Iestyn has no real clue how to fight or use a weapon.
- Mated Pair: Weaker and less robust than a human (an exception is when a mate is under threat, a sudden burst of hormones can make one stronger than a typical human during this period. [roughly double])
- Tolerance for stupidity: Iestyn can be very testy when he thinks he's having to deal with a stupid individual. When his patience his drawing thin he'll start using word play to insult them to see if they notice.

BIOGRAPHY:
Nova et al once again failed to reference the work of Villiam et al (837). If they had it would perhaps have become apparent that they were drawing incorrect conclusions for a small sample of data
The Authors find that the review comments of Villiam's team once again seems more preoccupied with attempting to reference their own work than providing constructive criticism. If they had fully understood the paper they would have seen that their qualms are regarding suggestions for future research, not firm conclusions.
If the Authors of the paper wished to make speculations of results, perhaps they should have considered a blog instead of a journal article?

Iestyn was, like most of his species, a single child brought up by loving parents. His parents were both academically minded and he followed in their footsteps. Unlike his parents his interests lied in biology, most notably of alien species. Lovalla are long lived species and their well respected universities have lengthy degree programs. His first degree took five years, followed by a seven year doctorate. Unlike most of his species he never travelled much during his adolescence. But like most of his kind he had nothing more than a few passing crushes before meeting his life mate.
Which brings us on to Veronika.
It was noted by his colleagues that he was remarkably quiet at the first conference he attended where Veronika was present. Normally he took great pride in waiting till the end of each talk and using as few a words as possible to dismantle their conclusions.
For the next few months he would often use the Holonet to pick holes in Nova’s published works. This greatly riled up Veronika, who had hoped for some encouragement from a fellow Lovalla with a more distinguished career in the subject. In reality Iestyn was merely trying to gain her attention and demonstrate how intelligent he was, even if he didn't realise it himself.
This spilled over into several conferences where the pair often had public spats during presentations. His colleagues enjoyed remarking that he always became particularly colourful during Veronika’s presentations and during their spats, an accusation he constantly refuted. His colleagues continued to do this, mostly because they enjoyed the deep teal colour with pink stripes (embarrassment) his skin tended to turn.
It was five years before he finally admitted how he felt at a conference dinner. The xenobiologists present found the very colourful display rather interesting as Lovalla courtship displays were well documented and rarely seen. The pair turned up to the conference the next day together, sat quietly beside each other and remained a pleasant shade of pink all day. There was much relief from a community who had been expecting this for several years and had grown tired of their bickering.
It took several months for them to find work together. As they grew closer it became increasingly difficult to remain apart as their hormonal systems became codependant. Iestyn turned down a prominent research position in the Core. With her love of field work it was decided that he would move into a career more aligned to hers, with the understanding that they'd probably both want a desk job when they were past a hundred anyway. They managed to both get a position at GUIDE together and were permitted to assemble their own team comprised of two postgraduate students, a postdoctoral student and one junior research post.
Iestyn frequently complains that he preferred to study climactic effects from a distance and Veronika pretends this annoys her. In truth she's simply glad to have her life mate with out in the field. They have now been together for five years, following a quite bizarre five year courtship.

Acronym. Stands for Galactic United Information Database Enclave and refers to the group that oversees and produces the collective articles of The Guide.
The Guide
Refers to the collective of articles and information produced by GUIDE. It comes in the form of a downloadable application that can be used on any datapad. The Guide is available to every galactic citizen by purchase of membership (1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 3 year, 5 year, 10 year, or lifetime). It is updated instantaneously as the Guide Scribes work round the clock to provide the most current information recorded by our teams in the field.
Beacon of Broadcast [GUIDE Mobile HQ]
Informally and lovingly referred to as BOB, the Beacon of Broadcast is a large ship that stands as the home and Headquarters of GUIDE and its employ. BOB is generally situated in neutral or friendly territories and moved only out of necessity to maintain neutrality or for the safety of its crew and residents. It was created by Koros Spaceworks as part of the INVESTOR agreement made by Lily Kirsche Kuhn.
