The Icefang-class Cruiser, more commonly known as the Icefang-class Star Destroyer, was a warship designed for planetary defense, planetary assault, troop transport, and ship-to-ship combat. The Cruiser was produced by the Chiss Ascendancy, and saw use as part of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet, and later, the Iron Imperial Navy. It was most commonly found within the borders of the Chiss Ascendancy, and formed the backbone of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet.
A versatile vessel, the Icefang-class Cruiser was equipped with a diverse range of weaponry. Among Turbolasers and General Purpose Warhead Launchers, the cruiser was equipped with Megamasers: a staple of Chiss weaponry. The Cruiser bore 40 batteries, and 10 long-range variants, of this unique energy weapon. In addition, the Cruiser could house a small contingent of starfighters. This culminated into the cruiser being able to be effectively deployed to a wide variety of situations.
However, the Icefang-class Cruiser was not without its shortcomings, especially those inherent to the wedge-shaped design. Like others of similar design, the Cruiser's weaponry could not adequately be brought to bear on targets to its rear. This made the Cruiser vulnerable to attacks from behind. Additionally, the bridge tower served as a glaring target, for enemy vessels or starfighters. If destroyed, it would take some time for the secondary-bridge to take control of the vessel.
Following the Chiss Ascendancy's integration within the Iron Empire, the Icefang-class Cruiser saw a substantial increase in production, with many of these vessels being fielded as part of the Iron Imperial Navy.
