OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a technology to provide ships a temporary speed boost when exiting hyperspace.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Hyperspace Momentum — When equipped with a Hyperspace Momentum Capacitor a vessel can de-accelerate at a slower rate from hyperspace to realspace which provides them a temporary speed boost.
  • Scale Dependent — The speed boost that the Hyperspace Momentum Capacitor provides is dependent on the scale of the ship.
STRENGTHS
  • Speed Boost — The Hyperspace Momentum Capacitor can provide a speed boost to vessels when they first exist hyperspace.
  • Multiple Installation Options — The Hyperspace Momentum Capacitor has a compact design which allows it to be installed anywhere from a starfighter to a star destroyer.
SIGNIFICANT WEAKNESS
  • Gravity Wells — When a vessel attempts to exist hyperspace using the Hyperspace Momentum Capacitor, and there's an unexpected gravity well, the vessel will be shattered from the interplay between the attempted de-acceleration and the interdiction field.
WEAKNESSES
  • Collisions — A vessel is less likely to evade a collision when moving at an unusual speed, especially when the vessel was not designed with maneuverability in mind to begin with.
  • Lost Momentum — When a vessel equipped attempts to maneuver it will lose the speed boost it received from the Hyperspace Momentum Capacitor. To maintain the speed boost, the vessel needs to travel in a relatively straight trajectory.
  • Installation Limits — The Hyperspace Momentum Capacitor cannot be installed on anything larger than a star destroyer (or any vessel that is greater than 2000 meters in length).
  • Shields Required — The Hyperspace Momentum Capacitor could not be used on a vessel without shields. A vessel that attempts to use this hardware without shields would be shattered into an infinitesimal number of bits.
DESCRIPTION
The Hyperspace Momentum Capacitor was developed to increase the effectiveness of ships attempting to run a planetary blockade. This technology was intended to provide ships a temporary boost in speed to increase their chances at running through an enemy blockade. The design team wanted to create hardware that was compact and cost-effective enough, that it could find usage among resistance cells. To this end they developed the Hyperspace Momentum Capacitor to be flexible enough that it could be fitted into a hyperdrive system as small as one intended for a starfighter or as large as one intended for a star destroyer. One downside with this one size fits all approach, the effectiveness of the technology was scaled to the size of the vessel. The larger the ship the less effective the Hyperspace Momentum Capacitor. However, this issue aside, the Federal Cooperative would move forward with putting this technology into production.
