Special Features:
  • Advanced targeting systems for firing the Vortex cannon.
  • Heavy armour, especially around the cannon.

  • Self-destruct charges to destroy the cannon if it is in danger of being captured.
Manoeuvrability Rating: 16
Speed Rating: 14
Hyperdrive Class: 2.0

Strengths:
  • Big Guns. The Hunter’s main gun is the massive Vortex Macro Cannon, a weapon capable of inflicting horrific damage on the enemy. Its long range and lethal projectiles give it a fearsome reach.
  • Ironclad. Unlike many in the Coalition fleet, the Hunter has very thick armour, allowing it to absorb damage if it ever gets into close combat.
Weaknesses:
  • Ranged Killer. The Hunter’s main weapon and most of its secondary armament is designed for long range work. Up close, the Vortex Cannon is hard to use, and it lacks close range weapons. An enemy which gets close can do so with little resistance.
  • Slow and Heavy. Having so much weight from the armour, Vortex cannon and stabilisers makes the Hunter slow for its class and extremely hard to turn. This is especially a drawback as its main cannon is mounted on the front.
  • Requires Escorts. The Hunter is not, by itself, a complete unit. It lacks many defence guns to defend against attack craft and has no squadrons of its own. Also, ships which can get out of reach of the Vortex Cannon can get beneath or behind it and inflict heavy damage.
Description:
When Admiral Stahlmann retired from the Republic he took with him some ideas and experience learned during his time there.
Development Thread: None
Intent: To create an artillery heavy cruiser for the Coalition. This will utilise the powerful Vortex Cannon to inflict long range destruction. However, the ship lacks in other weapons, especially at close range, and is extremely slow and cumbersome. This creates a balance of strength and weakness which strategy and tactics can make or break.
As a side note, the Vortex Cannon has had a submission modification put for it, but since it was never and will never be used by the Republic, this writer does not feel the need to wait for the modification to be propagated. It was designed by this character and remains his.
Who Can Use This: Silver Sanctum Coalition
Primary Source: None

Fairly strait forward. Gun count is on part, speed is a bit slow... but is appropriate for a heavily armored artillery boat.
The fire-arcs are a bit complicated on a ship this size, but it works and it fits with the other ships for this "fleet".

Approved, pending secondary.
