Canon Link: Sky Trooper
Primary Source: N/A

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
Manufacturer: RMIA
Affiliation: The Eternal Empire of Zakuul, closed markets (requires explicit authorization)
Model: HST-1, Heavy Skytrooper battledroid
Production: Minor
Modularity: Moderate; mounted weapons may be switched out, color and appearance may be changed
Material: Duranium, droid components, weapon parts, and a lot of hate love

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Classification: Fourth Degree
Weight: 65kg
Height: 1.93m
Movement: Bipedal
Armaments:

 • Left shoulder mounted flamethrower

 • Right shoulder mounted charric blaster

 • knee boot rockets

 • Forehead mounted “death stare” close-range flechette launcher

 • Right wrist mounted disruptor

 • Left wrist mounted retractable vibroblade

 • Utility belt (room for 3 grenades, ammo clips, etc)
Misc. Equipment:

SPECIAL FEATURES

 • Rocket boosters: The Heavy Skytrooper’s rocket boosters can give it a sudden burst of speed, enabling them to quickly close distances or surprise unsuspecting foes with their approach.

 • Built in weaponry: The Heavy Skytrooper is designed not only to carry a rifle but have weapons built into their body as well. The Heavy Skytrooper is a walking arsonal--plus any rifle they carry.

 • Faraday cage: The faraday cage distributed through the Heavy Sky trooper mitigates the emp and ionic damage it takes, however it does not remove all of it. A strong enough EMP or ion blast would make the Heavy Sky trooper reboot and fry some electronic circuitry.

Strengths:

 • Rocket boosters: The Heavy Skytrooper’s rocket boosters can give it a sudden burst of speed, enabling them to quickly close distances or surprise unsuspecting foes with their approach.

 • Faraday cage: The faraday cage distributed through the Heavy Sky trooper mitigates the emp and ionic damage it takes, however it does not remove all of it. A strong enough EMP or ion blast would make the Heavy Sky trooper reboot and fry some electronic circuitry.

 • Independent mind: Anyone looking to hack and take over the skytrooper army would have to do so each droid at a time. The heavy skytroopers operate independently, meaning that taking the entire army down won’t be as easy as destroying one ship as you shout “Now this is podracing” a la Phantom Menace.

 • Always armed: The Heavy Skytrooper is designed not only to carry a rifle but have weapons built into their body as well. The Heavy Skytrooper is a walking arsonal--plus any rifle they carry.

 • Failsafe: Each Skytrooper has a deadman’s switch failsafe. If hacked, the switch triggers and their internal generator explodes, rendering the droid unable to be used. It’s been proven to be incredibly effective, those nearby tend to get shrapnel damage and various degrees of burns, depending on how much armor they are wearing (Sorry, Doug). It’s not strong enough to bring a building down or anything, it’s just on par with a frag mine as far as effects and damage go. In the event the deadman switch is disabled, a massive surge is sent through the main processor, completely annihilated it and rendering the droid useless.
Weaknesses:

 • Joints: The heavy Skytrooper’s weakest spots for their armor is their joints.

 • Ponderous: The heavy skytrooper, without using their rocket boosters, moves at a max speed that is just below a human’s jog. Their rocket boosters have six charges before needing to be refilled.

 • Refills: The built in knee rockets and rocket boosters take quite some time to refill, requiring the Heavy Skytrooper to be out of commission as it is opened up and refilled.

 • Primitive intelligence: they are not dumb enough to say ‘roger roger’ but the heavy skytrooper is not able to do much more than follow orders. They lack tactical skill and require external leadership--preferably in the form of an organic. If told “kill that man” or “shoot that place” or “guard this door and make sure no one comes in” their basic processors are able to take that. But more advanced orders such as “Go in that field and tell me what you find” are more than it can handle.

 • Hacking: The Skytrooper’s relatively low intelligence makes it rather easy to hack, for anyone able to get in close enough with a datapad and the proper skills. Disabling the failsafe is a little harder (sorry, Doug).

DESCRIPTION
Nations rise and fall on the backs of their basic units. Studies have shown that nations with weaksauce troups fall 100% of the time. And by a study, we mean an RMIA-sponsored field test where we invaded a bunch of planets for fun to see how weak their troops weak were.

How weak were they? Hella. Hella weak.

This lead to a revelation worthy of a doctoral thesis; strong grunts make a strong army. To this end, the HST-1 Heavy Skytrooper was designed and built. It’s the middle ground of affordability, functionality, and basically a maniac’s attempt to fit as many ways to kill on one bot. Let’s walk through it together.

The flechette repeater attached to the head serves as a nasty surprise to deal out some pretty great damage to troops en mass. If you feel like warming your girlfriend’s (or enemy’s) heart, just use that shoulder mounted flamethrower. For close-up results that are intimate and friendly, use that charric blaster to hit them where it counts. If none of that is good enough for you, feel free to cut them to the quick with that beautiful retractable vibroblade. Man, dating and killing have never been easier than they are now!

Of course, when you throw this much gear on one bot, it’s going to have consequences. The Duranium hull is comparatively light for the protection it offers, but all the weapons stored onboard makes the droid’s top speed just below that of a jogging human. To remedy that with some bursts of speed, Ardgal suggested they draw on the original design of the rocket boosters. And by suggested I mean he pretty much said do it or your fired. It works for bursts, but unfortunately the HST-1 only has six before it has to recharge.

RMIA spent so much on the droid’s arsenol and armor that frankly there wasn’t a lotta love left for the CPU. I mean, can you blame us? Do you really want to sit down and have an intellectual conversation with a death machine? Talk about awkward discussing the meaning of life with that guy! Unfortunately, the Heavy Skytrooper’s CPU as a result is pretty subpar. It will follow basic orders like “kill” and “guard” and so on. It’s not so dumb as to say “Roger roger” and all that business. (To quote Doug before he got shot again, “are they really super commandos if they can’t take down those fools? Hey, what’s that blaster fo--ow that hurts!”) They are unable to follow more complex commands like “Scout ahead and tell me what you find.” That is honestly more manageable than the big issue of the HST-1’s lack of intelligence--its ability to be hacked. Anyone with a moderate knowledge of hacking can bypass the HST-1’s mental capacity.

They won’t find much use for it, however. The deadman failsafe will cause the droid to explode--and in the rare even that can be bypassed, well the droid just fries its own processor so it can’t be used ever again.

All in all, its just a combat droid to be used for protecting the people of the Zakuul Eternal Empire.
