Description -
The HSA Type 842 is a diminutive semi-automatic slugthrower pistol developed by and for the Miln. Manufactured by the Hafnip State Arsenal corporation, it was accepted into service with the Miln Astrogational Corps in 842 ABY, hence its designation.
Meant to replace the bulky and cumbersome Type 774 in "polite company", the Type 842 is a gas capture blowback-operated semi-automatic pistol which is far more compact and easier to conceal than the chunky, though more powerful submachine-gun. Equipped with an 8-round magazine, it can fire single shots or 2-round bursts, and uses the same 11.5mm ammunition as its predecessor.

The rounds used by the Type 842 and Type 774 are standard Miln military pistol ammunition. They are slightly unusual in that they are semi-caseless, with the bullet also composing the "cartridge". The base is sealed by a disintegrating percussion cap, which when struck by the firing pin ignites the propellant held within the the bullet. This is in contrast to most conventional slugthrowers, in which the propellant and percussion cap are usually housed in a metallic casing, which the bullet is ejected from.
The ammunition of the 774 and 842 is ventilated for greater propellant efficiency, lowered recoil and higher muzzle velocity; said vents are filled by soft metallic disintegrating plugs to keep the round from being affected by the elements during storage. The propellant charge inside the round is equivalent to 240 grains of cordite; it is a specialized formulation developed by the Miln, however. The bullets themselves are composed entirely of cast brass, and are capable of penetrating common plastoid and light armorweave body armor at up to 30 meters.
Other ammo types include incendiary and soft-tip hollow point. Miln scouts and others will often handload their own custom rounds, as well.

Though not a replacement for the venerable Type 774 in all situations, the Type 842 is meant for concealed carry, or for use in situations where an automatic hand-cannon would be considered inappropriate. Small enough to fit in the inside pockets of the average flight-suit or vest, or in a small holster, it nevertheless packs a punch at short range. It can fire reliably in almost any environment, including a hard vacuum.
The Type 842 can also be fitted with an optional silencer.
