Description -
The HSA Type 774 is a submachine-gun designed and manufactured by the Hafnip State Armory corporation. Adopted by the Miln Astrogational Corps as a standard personal defense weapon in 774 ABY, it is primarily used by scouts in the employ of that organization. Though generally not exported, it is common within Miln space, and holy terror to most beings unlucky enough to find themselves staring down the business end.

The Type 774 is a slightly unusual design, built primarily for ruggedness and reliability. Resembling an over-sized pistol, it uses a modified blowback mechanism and fires 11.5mm pistol ammunition. Capable of firing up to 700 rounds/minute on full automatic, it is also able fire in semi-automatic and 3-round burst modes. Ammunition is fed from a 50 round magazine which fits over the top of the action; this magazine actually makes up for a significant portion of the weapon's loaded bulk, and extra mags are heavy and cumbersome for most Miln to carry.

The rounds used by the Type 774 are standard Miln military pistol ammunition; that said, they are slightly unusual in that they are semi-caseless, with the bullet also composing the "cartridge". The base is sealed by a disintegrating percussion cap, which when struck by the firing pin ignites the propellant held within the the bullet. This is in contrast to most conventional slugthrowers, in which the propellant and percussion cap are usually housed in a metallic casing, which the bullet is ejected from.
The ammunition of the 774 is ventilated for greater propellant efficiency, lowered recoil and higher muzzle velocity; said vents are filled by soft metallic disintegrating plugs to keep the round from being affected by the elements during storage. The propellant charge inside the round is equivalent to 240 grains of cordite; it is a specialized formulation developed by the Miln, however. The bullets themselves are composed entirely of cast brass, and are capable of penetrating common plastoid and light armorweave body armor at up to 30 meters.
Other ammo types include incendiary and soft-tip hollow point. Miln scouts and others will often handload their own custom rounds, as well.

Due to their fearsome ammunition and high rate of fire, the Type 774 would normally produce tremendous recoil, making it unsuited for use by the diminutive Miln. To counteract this, the 774 has a robust recoil dissipation mechanism, absorbing up to 90% of the weapon's kickback when firing. The most visible component of this is a large muzzle brake, which vents a portion of the hot gasses escaping the barrel to the sides rather than out of the front, keeping the gun from being propelled backward as much, though it does have the disadvantage of rendering any conventional silencer attachment to the weapon ineffective. The effect of the muzzle brake works in concert with counterweight mechanisms in the action.
As a result, the Type 774 is incredibly controllable, able to be fired without the benefit of a shoulder stock even in full auto. The weapon is generally fired two-handed, but can be fired one-handed if necessary.

Overall, the Type 774 is a durable and reliable weapon, depended upon by Miln scouts as they explore the Galaxy. Though often dismissed for its antiquated slugthrower design, it should not be underestimated.

The planet submission you are linking to as the location of the manufacturers of this gun is currently under review, how close is it to being approved/pending approval?

Hafnip is very nearly ready; the only thing I have left to do for approval is to finish a development thread on the history of the orbital habitats, which I am currently working on. Everything else is ready to go.
