OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Holocron Name: Holocron of Darth Voph
  • Alignment: The Holocron exists in a state of flux, shifting between Light and Dark, seemingly on a whim.
  • Origin: The Holocron was created by Darth Voph in conjunction with Darth Sovryn in the final days of the Zakuul War
  • Affiliation: Voph, Confederacy of Independent Systems (Unknowingly)
  • Gatekeeper: The Gatekeeper is a Miralukan Male, identical to Voph, save for a difference in facial scars. The hair is depicted as jet black, matching the ornate black robes that feature a gold trim weaving about the figure like vines. The gatekeeper is also depicted as having a lightsaber at his hip. Unlike Voph, the Gatekeeper is shown to wear an ornate bone crest over his eyes.
  • Description: The Holocron of Darth Voph is small, fitting within the palm of one's hand. It glows softly when exposed to the force, and emits a gentle, harmonic hum audible only to force sensitive beings. The casing is ornate, yet durable, having survived for thousands of years under the care of Darth Sovryn. Within are held the full extend of Darth Voph's teaching and knowledge. Plans for every suit of armor, every lightsaber, every robe he has ever designed, and every Force Power he has learned, including some he has created or modified, such as Channeling or Force Brand.
DEFENSES
  • Accessibility: The Holocron will open to any force sensitive, but the Gatekeeper refuses access to those who have not passed The Trials. Those who have passed all four trials will be granted full access to the secrets within.
The Trial of the Will: The Holocron will not reveal its secrets to those who are not ready. Many of the techniques contained within require at least some formal understanding of the Force.
  • The Trial of the Mind: Voph's mind suffered greatly during the Dread War. The secrets contained within will only reveal themselves to one who has been subjected to a Seed of Rage, or similar force.
  • The Trial of the Spirit: Voph's faith in his Empire was shaken during the Revanite Crisis. The secrets contained within will only reveal themselves to one who is deemed steadfast in their cause, even when all others abandon it.
  • The Trial of the Body: Voph's body was nearly destroyed in the Zakuul War. The secrets contained within will only reveal themselves to one who has faced down impossible odds, knowing full well that defeat is inevitable.

[*]Security: The Gatekeeper is not an AI, but rather a fragment of Voph's Soul. The Gatekeeper will not lash out at those deemed unworthy of its secrets, but it will also refuse to reveal its true nature. No physical force or ritual has been discovered to force the Holocron to reveal its secrets to the unworthy.

CONTENT INFORMATION
History: The Holocron contains a complete history of the galaxy till the year 3630 BBY, as understood by Darth Voph. It is not entirely impartial, but it is an accurate source of historical information from this time period.

Blueprints and plans: The holocron contains information on Voph's lightsabers, armors, and various other tools he has constructed. Most of it is outdated and inferior, and serves as little more than records of a past life.

Force Powers: The Holocron contains a wide array of Force Powers, including some that Voph developed or tweaked himself. This constitutes the primary function of the Holocron. While it is fully capable of training someone, the Gatekeeper will refuse access to those who have not had any formal training, and will restrict higher level teachings based on the perceived worthiness of the user.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Holocron was created over the course of thousands of years, beginning in the year 3630 BBY when Darth Voph was killed. In an effort to preserve his contact with the mortal realm, Darth Sovryn bound his soul to the device using an ancient ritual she had learned from her Sith Master. At the time, the device was inert, no knowledge contained within. Because it had become his prison, Darth Voph began to fill the device with knowledge, if only to stave off the madness of the limbo he'd become ensnared in. Voph had not bothered to install a Gatekeeper, as he himself was bound to the device and could control the information flow.

In 851 ABY, Darth Sovryn conducted a ritual to remove Voph's spirit from the holocron, and reinsert it into a host body, effectively resurrecting him. Because his spirit had become so entwined with the Holocron, the ritual caused it to fracture, a part of the soul being left behind. Because of this, Voph's memories of his time bound to the holocron, as well as various memories of his life before death, are lost or missing. The fragment remaining within the Holocron now serves as the gatekeeper, safeguarding both the knowledge within, and those who would try to access it.

Though the holocron shifts between light and dark, there is very little distinction between the two when interacting with it. The gatekeeper will often speak in disdainful tones when addressing Sith or Jedi, but Force users not affiliated with these orders meet no resistance and are often treated with a considerable level of cordiality. The alignment of the Holocron offers no boons to users of either side, instead radiating with the chosen aura for a time, before slipping back to a neutral state. It is currently unknown what causes this to happen, and even Voph himself cannot explain it. He theorizes that this is a result of the Gatekeeper being a fragment of his own soul, and is reacting to the Force in some way. Potentially measuring the balance of the Force as a whole, though only in localized areas.
