The biggest thing to know about the timeline is that we're set over 800 years after the battle of Yavin. The truth of history has been lost over the yers so you can pull whatever you want from Disney canon or Legends but none of that really matters in the modern day. The age of Luke and Vader has passed, it's a time for new heroes and new stories we can tell without worrying about them
