|Background|

Hawthorn, born under the name Vikton, was the crown prince of the Tof Kingdom in the Firefist galaxy. Raised to cherish the blood-stained battlefields and the cries of war, the young prince was no different than any Tof his age and yet he was born to be much greater. Being heir to the Tof kingdom was much more than just being a warrior ever since inter-galactic war that ravaged the nation over one-thousand years ago. Hawthorn was trained to kill from the day he could walk, learning first to swing and kill with the light ax accustomed to his people. Then, when his first chin hair grew, he was taken to the valley of lost kings to learn from the greatest living Tof marksman the planet could offer. Unlike the Tof nobles of old, who saw their kingdom fall into ruin, Hawthorn had to fight to not only eat, sleep and drink but to keep his right to rule over the kingdom. Nothing was given for free, that was a sentiment the Tof could no longer afford.

By the age of twelve, Hawthorn routinely faced mock ambushes staged by his father and his guardsman. When the young boy failed to defend off the attackers, he was beaten mercilessly by the men before his father came to his aid and brought him to his chambers for healing. A king of the Tof had to always be ready, and no son of the King would be allowed to live a life in which they could not defend what was rightly theirs. At fifteen the prince was taken with his father on his first raid of Nagi, homeworld of the Nagai and it was here that he slew his first opponent and earned himself his first blood knot. At 18, Hawthorn was leading his own raids against races across the Firefist galaxy and by the time he turned 20 he was at the front of major offensives to retake lost sections of Tof space.

The campaign to retake the Tof Empire in Firefist was a long and grueling process that saw millions of Tof lives lost over the course of twenty-two years and Hawthorn took the head during all of it. By the time the war with the Nagai was officially resolved, Hawthorn was the veteran of thirty-nine battles and seven personal honor duels. His father, still ruling well into his sixties, was healthy and the Kingdom was in a shape that rivaled even the Tof of old. Something still remained, however, even after all lost space had been reconquered. The outsiders of the Skyriver galaxy, the ones who the Tof had warred with and were pushed back and invaded by. The ones who had left the Tof kingdom in ruin and disorder over one-thousand years ago.

Revenge had yet to be exacted upon them. The King declared that Hawthorn was no longer successor to the Tof Kingdom throne, instead, he would inherit a greater purpose. He would be sent into the Skyriver galaxy to claim its territory in name of the Tof and organize it into a great Sky Kingdom that would one day unite the two galaxies under Tof rule. To most species, this fate may seem like punishment. To the Tof, however, the chance for the conquest of an ancient enemy was a reward and an honor. While his father rebuilt the Empire in Firefist, he would ride forth into Skyriver with a massive expedition force and found his new kingdom. When the day comes that the Tof rule Skyriver, the two galactic kingdoms shall be reunited into the largest the Tof have ever known.

The prince changed his name before leaving on his conquest, using the Tof word Haw (meaning roughly "Lord of") and the Galactic basic word Thorn as to allow his name a sort of dark mystery for the ones he sought to conquer. His name, translated literally, would now be "Lord of the Thorn" and to represent his new position the young prince made an addition to the already present tribal flower on his face. Thorns were added to represent the vengence his people sought after the Mandalorians, Republicans and other races and cultures of the Skyriver galaxy for what they did to their mighty empire of old...
